After much consideration and consultation a decision has been made to continue with the 2019 New Zealand Stroke Play Championship, to be held at the Christchurch Golf Club this week from 21-24 March.
NZ Golf have taken careful advice from Sport New Zealand, Christchurch City Council, the Christchurch Police, Christchurch Golf Club, Canterbury Golf, participating players and New Zealand Golf staff, who are all supporters of the championship going ahead.
This decision has not been made lightly and after taking careful advice from the above parties, NZ Golf feel that the golfing community can show its support to the Canterbury/Muslim community by continuing to host this event in Christchurch.
During the event NZ Golf will take the opportunity to ensure that all competitors and officials at the Christchurch Golf Club pay due respect to those who lost their lives by observing a minutes silence. Black ribbons will be made available to all players on Thursday morning and we will be encouraging competitors to attend the Thursday evening memorial service to be held at the Cathedral Square at 8:30pm.
NZ Golf understand and support those competitors who may wish to withdraw from the event and if they do so they will be refunded their entry fee.
