The first round of the 2017 Pollock Cup was held yesterday at Pegasus Golf Club. There was a 30 minute delay due to frost, but once play was underway the players experienced fine but cool conditions on a course that had held up well to all the recent rain.
Newcomers and host club Pegasus faced off against Harewood and went down 2.5-1.5. No. 1's Catherine Knight and Hillary O'Connor halved. For Harewood Anne Dick and Debbie Scott had good wins, while Pam McTaggart (Pegasus) and Bobbi Oliver (Pegasus) had a good tussle before Oliver prevailed 1up.
Traditional rivals Russley and Christchurch squared off and the result was a 2-2 draw. Juliana Hung beat Catherine Bell 4/2 in the No. 1 battle, while Amy Weng recorded the other win for Russley over Melissa Newburn. For Christchurch Olive Tapu and Lina Park beat Robyn Cruse and Maddie May respectively.
Waitikiri accounted for Clearwater 3-1. Waitikiri's experienced line-up were too strong with wins to Ginny Bolderston, Kim Moggach and Lynley Watts. Virginia Faass got the win for Clearwater.
The next round is this Sunday at Harewood Golf Club.
