Amberley Win Boyle Cup

Boyle Cup Holders Amberley June 2022 LR 1 Charteris Bay's long reign as Boyle Cup Champions came to an end yesterday in their 21st defence when they were defeated 3-2 by Amberley in a very close affair with two matches going to the 17th and another to the 18th. Charteris Bay had held the Boyle Cup since defeating Greendale on 13th April 2018 so it will leave a big gap in the club's trophy cabinet. Amberley will now contact Canterbury clubs to request expressions of interest to challenge for the Boyle Cup and conduct a ballot of those interested. Review - 2022 Golf Warehouse Canterbury 4BBB Championship

Golf Warehouse Preview After the tournament was cancelled last year due to inclement weather the 2022 Golf Warehouse 4BBB Championship was held at the same venue - Pegasus Golf Club. A full field turned out and braved the cold conditions on a well turned out championship layout. There was some good scoring, none better than former Canterbury Rep Andrew Green who fired a four under par 68 that included a bogey on the par 5 18th hole. Annette Laugesen Passes Away

Former Canterbury Womens Golf Association (CWGA) President and McLeans Island Life Member Annette Laugesen passed away recently after a brief battle with cancer. Her contribution to golf in Canterbury started in 1988 when she joined the CWGA as a committee member and remained on the committee until she was elected Vice President in 2000, and then President in 2002 until to 2003. During this time she was also the Canterbury delegate to the New Zealand Women's Golf Council. Annette was still active playing golf and serving her club up until her passing. Golf Warehouse Preview A top field of Canterbury amateurs will turn out for the Golf Warehouse Canterbury 4BBB Championship being held at Pegasus Golf Club this Sunday 19 June. Demand to play in this championship has been strong with many pairs balloted out of both the men's and women's fields. The men's title will be hotly contested with a high-quality field. Barry Brownie Passes Away

Central Canterbury stalwart Barry Brownie passed away last Sunday aged 88 years. He contributed significantly to golf in the Canterbury Central region, with the Brownie Cup still played for today in Canterbury Central interclub. A service to celebrate Barry's wonderful life, will be held at the Akaroa Golf Club, Pawsons Road, Duvauchelle, on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 12.30pm, interment thereafter at The Akaroa Anglican Cemetery, Akaroa.

GOLF NZ NATIONAL JUNIOR TRAINING CAMP INVITES Yuki Miya (Russley) and Cooper Moore (Clearwater) have recently accepted an invitation to Golf New Zealand’s National Junior Training camp that falls under Phase 2 of the National Talent Development Programme. The camp will take place from the 10th to the 13th of July at St Peters Golf Academy, Cambridge. Womens 18 Hole 6s Interclub Champions 2022 Russley 2 LR The Finals of Women’s 18 Hole 4’s and 6’s Interclub were hosted at the Hororata Golf course yesterday in fine, cool conditions which players and officials would have welcomed after early morning rain was persistent elsewhere in Canterbury. The 4’s Final between Bottle Lake and Christchurch was always going to be a tight match after the teams couldn’t be separated in their round robin match in April. Winners Graphic2 The Final of the Canterbury Junior Interclub Matchplay was played at the well presented Russley Golf Club, after a frost delay the matches begun between both finalists who the previous week had triumphed in extra holes after the semi finals were tied 2-2. Brownie Cup Winners 2022 Lincoln LR The final round of Canterbury Central Brownie Cup interclub was played at Ellesmere Golf Club on Sunday in fine, sunny conditions and the course in great order. Lincoln were on top of the table leading into the final round with their opposition Akaroa two points behind. Akaroa gave themselves a fighting chance of taking the title by defeating Lincoln 5-4 but Lincoln's team of, from left David Gugich, Graham Allan, Wayne Gugich, Scott Saunders, Darryl Moore and Josh Thomson.
