The 2021 NZ Freyberg Masters concluded last Friday after an as always grueling week of golf with each association playing 8 rounds of golf in 5 days. Played at the challenging Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club the Canterbury team ended up with an 8th place final ranking finishing with 2 wins, 2 A/S, and 4 losses from their 8 matches.

As part of our preparations for the upcoming 2021 NZ Women’s Interprovincial tournament the regular Canterbury vs Wellington fixture was played at Timaru Golf course over the weekend.
Unfortunately, with the terrible rainfall experienced in Timaru on the Saturday, as both teams arrived on course the obvious decision was unfortunately made to abandon the first round of play. Luck was on our side on the Sunday however with the day dawning without rain and the course recovering enough for play to progress. The Pollock Final was held at Harewood on Sunday 7 November on a breezy cool day where it didn’t reach the expected 18 degrees. This was a final where the golf was of a very high calibre and the two clubs Christchurch and Clearwater had many supporters out to witness many quality golf shots. With Christchurch keen to lose the ‘bridesmaid’ title for the last five years, and Clearwater very keen to win it allowed for some very close matches and almost ‘down to the wire’ finish.

A great weekend for Canterbury Golf saw both our women’s team take out their SIIP tournament in style at Timaru Golf course with the men’s team also impressive in taking out their respective competition at Ashburton Golf Course.
The ladies, looking to defend the title did so in style winning 3 from 3 games dropping just 6.5 points in total throughout the weekend. Rob Nicholl was the toast of Charteris Bay on Saturday afternoon when he was awarded The Elmwood Trading Co. Canterbury Golf Volunteer of the Year in front of a packed clubhouse.
Rob was rewarded and recognised for an incredible contribution to the club in the last year - over 570 hours of volunteer labour. This included:
375 hours spent maintaining and servicing machinery.
140 hours spent on a project to expand their workshop inlcuding helping raise funds and building the extension.
50 hours spent on installing a new bridge between the 18th and 1st holes.

Rounds 1 & 3 were played at Avondale Golf Club yesterday to complete round-robin for the 2021 Woodward Cup and find the semi-finalists to compete on Finals Day Sunday 21 November at Christchurch Golf Club.

It was a special occasion at Waitikiri Golf Club yesterday when Pam Ellis received her Canterbury Golf Life Membership in front of an appreciative gathering of women club members who had come especially to honour Pam.
Pam received her plaque from fellow Life Member Sue McFarlane and a nice bunch of flowers from Canterbury Golf Executive Commitee Member Kate Johnstone.
Pam's service began in 2009 managing the womens masters team for six years and also being a team selector for that time. She has also been on the womens course rating committee since that time and continues to contribute today. In 2010...
