The New Zealand Women's Team of Amelia Garvey, Alanna Campbell (BOP) and Rose Zheng (Auckland) are set to embark of the 39th Queen Sirikit Cup where they will play the 54 hole team event at the Zhangjiagang Shuangshan Golf Club, near Shanghai. The opening round begins Wednesday where all eyes will be on the new-look Kiwi side who aim to match the efforts of last year’s team who recorded an impressive third place finish in 2016. This young team will also relish and focus on the opportunity to gain experience at this level as they aim towards next year’s World Amateur Teams Championships in Ireland. Travelling and supporting the 2017 team is New Zealand Golf’s National Coach Jay Carter who will look to bring the best out of this exciting bunch throughout one of the great weeks in women’s amateur golf.
The event scoring format records the best two stroke-play scores daily for each team, while an individual prize is also up for grabs. New Zealand has won the Queen Sirikit Cup on just three occasions back in 1984, 1990 and the latest 1999.
We wish Amelia, Alanna and Rose all the best for the tournament and look forward to following their progress.
