Burnside High School narrowly defend Secondary School Championship

Secondary Schools 2017 Burnside HS Team Burnside High School defended their Canterbury Secondary Schools title by a slim margin.  The team of Juliana Hung, Amelia Garvey, Hiroki Miya and Hayato Miya went into the tournament as not only defending Canterbury champions but also national champions having won the title in 2016.  At the end of the 18 holes both Burnside High School and the Christchurch Boys High School team of Tom Parker, Ben Baker, Tiaki Ogilvie and Kansuke Shin were tied on a score of 224, the three best counting scores from each team.  The winner is determine by the non-counting score and on this occasion...

Amelia Garvey Wins NZ Eagles Golfer of the Year

Amelia Garvey NZ Eagles Golfer of the Year LR Amelia Garvey attended the Eagles Golfing Society of NZ annual Golfer of the Year Dinner at the Blenheim Community Centre on Wednesday evening 28th February  2017 and was presented with the trophy for the Golfer of the year for 2016. The qualifying period ran from November 2015 to October 2016 and in this period Amelia achieved honours in the game of golf from  representing NZ on the International scene to winning her first professional tournament (Autex Muriwai Open) becoming the second youngest women in NZ to achieve this goal behind Lydia Ko. Juniors Selected for NZ Golf Travelling Squad to Australian Girls and Boys Amateur

Canterbury Junior players Amelia Garvey (Kaiapoi), Juliana Hung(Russley), Tom Parker (Christchurch) and Dominic Brettkelly (Hororata) have been selected based on recent New Zealand tournaments results to travel with a NZ Golf squad to the Australian Junior Girls and Boys Amateur.  This is a great achievement for four Canterbury players to have been selected our of eight available places nationwide. The players travelling are: Girls: Amelia Garvey, Juliana Hung, Rose Zheng and Carmen Lim Boys: Shaun Campbell, Tom Parker, Dominic Brettkelley and Kevin Koong. Seniors Have Good Week in Christchurch

john Lister The week 13-18 February saw a series of Seniors tournaments in Christchurch that drew many local and overseas Seniors Professionals to play, along with a good contingent of amateurs who enjoyed the Pro-Am format. On Monday the Mainpower Legends Rangiora Pro-Am was played in strong nor-westerly conditions with Australian Pro David Good and local Colin Hunt both scoring 71 to share the title. Rangiora Make it a Double at Captains Day Tournament

Captains Day Winners 2017 Rangiora LR Canterbury Golf's Annual Captains Day Tournament was played at Amberley Golf Club on Friday. Light drizzle greeted players initially but the weather improved as the day went on and the course was in excellent condition with some great scoring as a result. Everyone enjoyed a great afternoon catching up with representatives from other Canterbury Clubs and the excellent hospitality provided by the Amberley Golf Club. Rangiora's Vivienne Taylor (33 points) teamed up this year with Paul Neilson (43 points) to make it back to back victories for Rangiora with a team total of 76 stableford points, well clear of Waimairi Beach...

Over 50's & 60's Interclub

The final round of Canterbury Over 50's & 60's Interclub was played at Bottle Lake Golf Club on Sunday with the course in excellent condition. This year's competition was restricted to four rounds due to bad weather cancellling two earlier rounds. Arthur Chambers Memorial Tournament

Arthur Chambers Memorial 2017 LR A field of 33 Junior golfers played in the Arthur Chambers Memorial Tournament at Weedons Golf Club on Sunday 29 January in fine weather and with the course in excellent condition. Joseph Hall (Weedons) won the Arthur Chambers Trophy for the Best Overall Net together with the U16 Net with a 63. The Boys Gross was won by Tiaki Ogilvie (Russley) with a 74 while the Girls Gross was won by Jeonghyun Lee (Christchurch) with a 75. Miya and Hung win Otago Stroke Play Titles

Hiroki Miya LR Canterbury juniors showed the way in the Otago men’s golf championship at the weekend, as Hiroki Miya (Russley) won and Tom Parker (Christchurch) finished second.  Miya (16) was impressive from tee to green, finishing on a par 284 for the four rounds to win the title from Parker (17) by seven shots. The Canterbury success continued in the women’s three-round event in which Juliana Hung (Russley) finished 10 shots ahead of Annabel Evans (Otago).  Hung set a course record of 72 in her first round on Saturday morning since the course has been altered for women, the sixth and 17th holes...

Hellier Holds On To Win Canterbury Strokeplay

Sponsor Lamb & Hayward CEO Stephen Parkyn (left) with the Canterbury Championship Winners   Scott Hellier needed to sink an eight foot putt on the 18th green to secure the Lamb & Hayward Canterbury Strokeplay title after starting the round with a six shot lead. He had been chased down by Jake Hallinan who was standing over a four foot putt on the 18th to shoot 67. Hellier got his putt to win, and perhaps seeing his title hopes dashed, Hallinan missed his putt for a two shot victory margin. Canterbury Strokeplay - Hellier Leads After 54 holes

Scott Hellier continues to lead the Lamb & Hayward Canterbury Strokeplay after 54 holes. This morning's round played in testing conditions saw Hellier shoot a three under 70 to lead by six shots from Dominic Brettkelly (73), and Jake Hallinan (76).  Hiroki Miya and Garth Simpson are a further shot back. Round four has been started with Officials watching the greens closely for signs of flooding. The Templeton course is holding up well but persistent rain may see cancellation of the fourth round.
