Bob Charles Sir Bob Charles ONZ, KNZM, CBE has become an Honorary Member of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews. Sir Bob is one of the world’s most renowned and popular golfers, becoming Champion Golfer of the Year after winning The Open in a play-off at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 1963. Amelia Muriwai Open Amelia Garvey has won for the first time on the Jennian Homes Charles Tour. The Kaiapoi and New Zealand Academy amateur put together a stunning four round performance to win the Charles Tour Autex Muriwai Open the final event of the season.   Starting the final round one shot back of professional Rica Tsa Amelia played superb golf shooting a two under par 70 with a bogey free round.  Winning by two shots over fellow Cantabrian Momoka Kobori (Rangiora), she was over the moon and more than happy to get her first win.  “It hasn’t really sunk in yet, but I’m...

Canterbury Win U16 & U19 South Island Teams Interprovincial

Canterbury have retained the Under 16 & Under 19 South Island Interprovincial titles which were played in conjunction with the South Island U19 Championship at the Tinwald Golf Club. The Canterbury Under 16 team of Hiroki Miya, Kazuma Kobori, Zach May, Tiaki Ogilvie and Hayato Miya dominated the Under 16 teams event winning from Tasman. The Canterbury Under 19 team of Tom Parker, Dominic Brettkelly, Marcel Boet, Ben Baker and Austin Hamilton turned the lead with Tasman, winning by eight shots. A big thank you to the Managers Tim May and Peacy Reihana who managed both teams throughout the week.

Miya and Hung take out South Island U19 Titles

Hiroki Miya (Russley) has delivered a suberb performance to win the South Island U19 Championship played at the Tinwald Golf Club this week.  Hiroki fired rounds of 66 and 67 to hold a clear advantage over the field heading into the final round today.  In the end he carded a final round of even par 72 to win the tournament by three shots from fellow Canterbury representative Tom Parker (Russley) who after shooting 73 in the opening round found his stride shooting 66 in the round 2 followed by 69 in the final round.  Third place was won by Sam...

Kobori finishes Second at Australian Junior Amateur

Momoka Kobori and Amelia Garvey have capped off a great week in Australia where they competed in the Australian Girls Amateur at the Devonport Golf Club in Tasmania.  The pair also formed part of the New Zealand team along with Alanna Campbell (Bay of Plenty) and Ela Grimwood (North Harbour) to compete against the Australian team in the Junior Tasman Cup.  This cup is played for over the opening 36 holes with the best  three scores counting from the team.  While the New Zealand team shot some low numbers they were outclasses by Australia by 17 shots, with three of...

Lincoln Win Junior Interclub Final

A great day was held at the Templeton Golf Club for the Junior Interclub Semi-finals and Finals.  The top four teams from the round robin competition fought hard in the semi final for a place in the final.  Top seed in section one Waimari Beach played Russley Blue, but Russley Blue proved too strong with the experienced side winning 4-0 to book the first place in the final.  In section two Lincoln showed why they were top seed topping Russley Gold in a closely fought battle, with Lincoln going through to the final 3-1.   The final match between Lincoln and...

NZ Women's Masters Wrap Up

The NZ Women's Masters celebrated it's 25th Anniversary returning to the Methven Golf Club where it all began.  Credit must go to the Methven Golf Club for the time and effort they put into preparing the course to the high standard it was presented in.   Auckland ran away with the victory heading into the final round with a 19 shot lead, they finished strongly to beat Southland, who have dominated the tournament over the past eight years, to win by 12 shots, with Aorangi enjoying one of their best finishes of the tournament in third. Burnside High School Defend Title at Canterbury Secondary Schools Championship

Secondary Schools 2016 Team Winner Burnside HS Three of the Burnside High School team from 2015 repeated the winning performance again in 2016.  The team of Amelia Garvey, Juliana Hung and brothers Hiroki Miya and Hayato Miya dominated the event with a strong performance at the Canterbury Secondary Schools Championship played at the McLeans Island Golf Club today.  Hayato Miya was the new comer to the team at just 12 years of age (turning 13 tomorrow) playing off a six handicap.  Amelia Garvey and Juliana Hung both played solid golf shooting 74 along with Hiroki Miya who had the third counting score of 76 to secure the...

Canterbury Women take top three spots at South Island Stroke Play

While the Canterbury Women's Team was announced as the winner of the Canterbury Sports Team of the Year, four members of the team were in Dunedin competing at the South Island Stroke Play played at the St Clair Golf Club.   Momoka Kobori showed her class once again defending her title she won in 2015 finishing on four under par to win the Women's South Island Stroke Play by five shots from teammate Hillary O'Connor who recovered from a rough first round to take out second place by one shot from Amelia Garvey.  Both Hillary and Amelia completed superb final rounds...

Canterbury Golfer Enjoy Trip of a Lifetime in China

The Canterbury trio of Juliana Hung, Tom Parker and Matt McLean have just completed a trip of a lifetime after travelling to China to compete at the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final played at Mission Hills.  All three booked their spot in the field after winning their respective age categories at the New Zealand event played at the Clearwater Golf Club in January.  The New Zealand event and trip to China was made possible through the contribution of the Canterbury Golf Development Trust.
