Waimairi Beach Juniors Win Interclub Foursomes

Winners 2017 Waimairi Beach LR The Final round of Junior Interclub Foursomes was played at the Tai Tapu Golf Club on Sunday in fine conditions with the course in great order. It was the culmination of four rounds of Junior Interclub incorporating Canadian Foursomes, Teams Foursomes, American Foursomes and a 4BBB Stableford round.  The Waimairi Beach team of, from left Jock Mackay (Mgr), Devin Pullyblank, Caleb Dick, Lachie Mackay (absent Kobe Tucker and Ben Burgess) were overall winners on 301 points for the second time in the past three years.       Templeton's Adele Lane (Mgr), Brett Langlands, Michael Lane, Matthew Lane (absent Mac McCall, and William Robb) were runners-up on 298, three...

Men’s South Island Masters Interprovincial

The Men’s South Island Masters Interprovincial Tournament was played at the Lower Waitaki Golf Club on 7-8 October. This was a great opportunity for the Canterbury Selectors to monitor performances and the masters players to stake their claim for a position in the five man Canterbury Freyberg Masters Team to play at Whitford Park Golf Club in Auckland from 6-10 November. Canterbury Junior Tournament Oct Winners LR A field of over forty juniors played in the junior tournaments held at Russley and Bottle Lake Golf Clubs.  Despite the tough conditions with persistent rain Hayato Miya (Russley) put together a solid sub par round of 70 to post the best score of the day at Russley followed by Mitchell Berry (Kaiapoi) on 79 with Josh Ackerley (Ashburton) winning the net on 73.  Grade 2 boys was led by Ethan Lam with a net 69 with Mitch McMillan runner up on a countback with a net 70 along with Lewis Patrick (Rangiora) with 38 points.  Jasmine Clancy (Russley) scored...

Canterbury Win Boys Interprovincial Title

Boys Interprovincial Team LR The Fenix Canterbury U19 Team have showed great composure to clinch the Boys Interprovincial title in Cambridge.  The team had unfinished business after finishing runners up in 2015 and prepared well for the week with a strong line up.  This year saw a change in team composition with four under 19 players and two under 16 players forming a team along with a travelling reserve changing from eight man teams in previous years.  The change was made to accommodate two extra provinces into the event which now sees 12 teams competing in the Boys Interprovincial run by Waikato Golf. Russley Too Strong in Woodward Cup Final

Woodward Cup Winners 2017 Russley LR Perennial finalists Russley and Christchurch again locked horns yesterday at Waimairi Beach Golf Club to find the Woodward Cup Champion for 2017, and this time it was Russley who came through after a hard fought battle through the back nine. The 7-1 scoreline to Russley was somewhat flattering as four of the eight matches went down to the last two holes. However Russley did have a good 5.5-2.5 lead after nine holes and were able to extend that down the stretch with Reid Hilton, Ben Baker, Cam Beel, and Owen Burgess in particular coming through in the later stages. Christchurch dominant in Pollock Cup

Pollock Cup 2017 Christchurch Christchurch ran out 4-0 winners against Clearwater in the Pollock Cup Final yesterday at Waimairi Beach Golf Club. Christchurch had a significant advantage on paper with their handicaps being more than half of their opponents and so it proved to be. Olive Tapu, Mel Newburn and Lina Park all won 4/3 after holding comfortable leads throughout. Templeton Win Blank & Simon Cups

Blank Cup Winners 2017 Templeton LR Templeton showed their strength through the interclub grades when they won both the Blank and Simon Cups yesterday at Waimairi Beach Golf Club, with their Woodward Cup side also narrowly missing out in the semi-finals. They won the Blank Cup 6-2 over Harewood with wins to Zac Mason, Greg Hey, Mike Berry, Ben Langrope, Joe Gantley, and Cam Finlayson. For Harewood Gavin O'Hara and Neville Bamford won well. Kobori Wins Victorian Boys Championship

Kazuma Kobori Victoria Boys Trophy Kazuma Kobori has notched up a great win not only winning the under 16 but also the under 19 at the 2017 Victorian Boys Championships at Yarra Yarra Golf Club.  The boys contest was tight heading into the final round with five players within three shots of overnight leader Jye Pickin.  Kobori started the day even further back, trailing Pickin by five strokes with 18 holes to play.  With the pressure off, Kobori kept his head down and eyes off the leaderboard, eventually carding the lowest round of the day, a 3-under 69, to finish one shot clear of the...

Hung Joins Garvey in NZ Women's Open Field

Juliana Hung Canterbury Age Groups LR Juliana Hung survived a nervous wait at the final qualifying event played at the Royal Auckland Golf Club before gaining confirmation that she had earned a spot in this week’s MCKAYSON New Zealand Women’s Open to become two of sixteen Kiwis playing this week.  Hung who has been in good form played steady golf signing for a one over par round of 73 to secure one of the six spots available for the final field.   Hung will be joined by Amelia Garvey who earned her spot in the field through NZ Golf.  Both players will be looking forward to playing...

Canterbury Make Clean Sweep Against Aorangi

Canterbury enjoyed a close match against Aorangi in the annual fixture played at the Ashburton Golf Club.  With the course in excellent conditions players enjoyed the challenge of both the course and opposition.  The Canterbury Women had a tight tussle in the morning taking a narrow lead 4.5 to 3.5 games while in the afternoon they performed even better winning 7.5-0.5 games to retain the Templar Trophy 12-4.  Olive Tapu, Jessica Crosbie and  Melissa Newburn won both their matches with Kawhena Rangihaeata and Cheryl Kemp also unbeaten with a win and a half.
