Canterbury Players Selected for NZ Travelling Squad

Posted by: on 13 December 2017

New Zealand Golf have named a squads to compete at the Australian Master of the Amateurs (AMOTA) to be played in early January.

A squad of six New Zealanders will tee it up from January 9 to play the 2018 AMOTA. The players travelling to the East course at the famed Royal Melbourne Golf Club are Daniel Hillier, Luke Brown, Mark Hutson, Kerry Mountcastle, Matt Mclean and Tom Parker.

For the first time in history, the AMOTA will introduce a women's event with Juliana Hung receiving an invite into the field. Hung will be looking to take her Toro Interprovincial form into the new year after ending the week with seven wins and just one loss for Canterbury.

For the men, this is placed by the R&A as the highest ranked Amateur Championship in Australia and is played over 72-holes of stroke play, without a cut.

In 2009 a young player called Rickie Fowler played in the event, only to lose in a playoff hole unlike the recent Hero World Challenge where he shot a remarkable final round of 61 to win to claim his fourth PGA Tour title.
