This afternoon interclub finals have been played at Christchurch Golf Club in fine conditions with a cool easterly breeze.
Results as they come to hand:
Simon Cup Final - Russley v Templeton
Russley have beaten Templeton 7-1. Matthew Ryall was the only player to get a point for Templeton, while David Kelly, Tiaki Ogilivie, Denis Kelliher, Hayato Miya, Nick Roberts, Gary Gillard, and Jack Ryder all had good wins for Russley.
Pollock Cup Final - Russley v Christchurch
Russley have won 3-1. For Russley Juliana Hung beat Catherine Bell 3/1, Hillary O'Connor beat Jeong-Hyun Lee 3/2, and Amy Weng beat Olive Tapu 1up. Elisha Crosbie got the sole win for Christchurch 5/3 over Krystle Falkner. The match between Canterbury Rep O'Connor and 9 year old Lee was particularly interesting. O'Connor was behind early on and only got in front by the 8th hole. From there the youngster tired and O'Connor took control. Weng and Tapu went down the 18th all square, but Tapu got into trouble off the tee and was unable to recover, while Weng played the hole in regulation.
Blank Cup Final - Russley v Clearwater
Russley beat Clearwater 5-3, with wins to Andrew Richarson, Hamish Kerr, Jake Roberts, Ben Baker, and Zach May. For Clearwater Harris Kim, William Bastings, and Louis Vieceli won.
Woodward Cup Final - Christchurch v Clearwater
Christchurch beat Clearwater 5.5-2.5. Christchurch got out to an early lead in the final and went through the turn leading 6-2. Although there were some close games they managed to hold their lead and win the Woodward Cup. At the top-of-the-order Jordan Bakermans and Oscar Cadenhead had a great match with only a slim lead either way throughout. They were square on the turn and that's how it ended - all square. Mike Toeke had a comprehensive win over James Cadenhead 7/6, John Wilson beat Noel Chambers 2/1, and Marcel Boet beat Matt Adam 4/3. Veteran John Sanders beat Ryan Adams 2/1, and Russell Fildes beat Jim Smith 3/2. Austin Hamilton and Matt Morris won for Clearwater.
Thanks must go to the Christchurch Golf Club for a superbly presented golf course, and to the Canterbury Referees and Canterbury Golf volunteer management for their time and commitment.
