Juliana Hung Selected for Queen Sirikit Cup

Posted by: on 4 April 2018

New Zealand Golf have named three debutants to compete in the 40th edition of the Queen Sirikit Cup to be played in Thailand from 9 – 11 May.

Juliana Hung (Canterbury), Brittney Dryland (Auckland) and Caryn Khoo (Auckland) will represent New Zealand at the Thana City Country Club as they aim to bring back the Queen Sirkit Cup for the first time since 1999.  Although they will play this event for the first time, they don’t lack experience or form of recent, with Hung featuring at the New Zealand Stroke Play Championship with her maiden win at Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club.

The 16-year-old now has the chance to represent New Zealand at the highest level alongside Dryland and Khoo who were also part of the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific squad that travelled to Singapore in February.  “It’s been a great week and to be selected for the Queen Sirikit Cup is very exciting. It will be an honour to represent New Zealand in Thailand, where I hope I can continue my recent form,” said Hung.

With a number of players unavailable due to U.S college commitments this new look team now has a chance to showcase their skills on the international stage.

Travelling and supporting the team will be New Zealand Golf’s National Coach Jay Carter.

The event scoring format records the best two stroke-play scores daily for each team, while an individual prize is also up for grabs. New Zealand has won the Queen Sirikit Cup on three occasions back in 1984, 1990 and as mentioned, the latest victory was in 1999.
