The South Island Men's Masters event has been reintroduced into the calendar for 2016 after an absence for a number of years. This event was played at the Chisholm Park Golf Club in Dunedin with teams of eight players representing Southland, Otago, Aorangi and Canterbury. The event had significant importance given that the New Zealand Freyberg will be played at Chisholm Park at the end of October. The Canterbury team of Blair Dibley, Aaron Forsyth, Richard Belcher, Daniel Hobbs, Jonathan Stieller, Brett Turner, Phil Davis and Owen Todd along with the manager Kevin Moyle enjoyed the opportunity to play the course in this hard fought tournament. Otago proved too strong with three wins from Southland finishing runners up with two wins.
