By-Laws of Canterbury Golf Incorporated (as updated January 2010)
By-Laws of Canterbury Golf Incorporated applicable to Mens and Womens Golf.
By-Law Decision No 1:
The selection to Canterbury Development Squads and Representative Teams is open to New Zealand Citizens and Permanent New Zealand Residents whose handicap is administered by a member club of Canterbury Golf Incorporated (hereinafter referred to as “CGI”) and they must permanently reside in the area administered by that body. The area administered comprises all the land bounded by the a) Conway River in the north, b) Rakaia River in the south, c) Chatham Islands in the east and d) the Southern Alps in the West.
A player without New Zealand citizenship or New Zealand permanent residence who has resided in Canterbury for a minimum term of one (1) year and whose handicap is administered by a member club of Canterbury Golf Incorporated may apply in writing to Canterbury Golf Incorporated for dispensation from the above mentioned policy. Each application will be judged on its merits taking into consideration the long term commitment to Canterbury Golf displayed by the applicant.
By-Law No 2:
The number of members of the Selection Panel and their appointment in any given year, shall be at the discretion of the Management Committee.
By-Law No 3:
Responsibility for advising on Local Rules and marking and Rule Interpretation be delegated to the Canterbury Golf Referees Association to act on behalf of Canterbury Golf Incorporated, all recommendations in these areas must be forwarded to Canterbury Golf Incorporated for further action as deemed necessary.
By-Law No 4:
All players competing in all Canterbury Interclub competitions may play for their home Club where their handicap is held and processed under the Slope Index System, (the three digit prefix number denotes a player's home club) or alternatively for any secondary club in Canterbury that they are also a full member or junior member of, providing that both their home and secondary Clubs are affiliated to Canterbury Golf Incorporated and they must permanently reside in the area administered by that body. The area administered comprises all the land bounded by the a) Conway River in the north, b) Rakaia River in the south, c) Chatham Islands in the east and d) the Southern Alps in the West. Players are permitted to represent only one club in one Calendar Year.
The Match committee of the Canterbury Golf Incorporated may approve a transfer from one club to another by any competitor on application being made in writing to the CGI.
Notwithstanding the provisions of Policy 4, on receipt of a request from a player in writing, the Match Committee of CGI may grant dispensations from those provisions in the following cases:
(1) A player who has elected to play for one club in a CGI region competition in that season, may seek a dispensation from CGI to play in the Woodward Cup/Pollock Cup competitions for a secondary participating club of which they are a full or Junior Member, no later than 1 month prior to the commencement of those competitions.
(2) A player whether resident in the defined Canterbury area or not and who wishes to play for a participating interclub team of which they may or may not be a member, in the Woodward Cup/Pollock Cup for that season, may seek a dispensation from CGI to play in those competitions for that club, no later than 1 month prior to the commencement of those competitions. The range of this dispensation is limited to one player only per club interclub team per season.
By-Law No 5:
The use of mobile phones and consumption of alcohol or illegal drugs during competition is expressly prohibited.
By-Law No 6:
That for the avoidance of doubt any person suspended pursuant to a ruling of a Commissioner of Golf may not be involved in any capacity in any CGI activity.
By-Law No 7:
All Canterbury representative teams that travel outside the region, must have a non-playing manager.
By-Law No 8:
All Canterbury representative teams and managers that travel outside the Canterbury region will travel together in Canterbury Golf Inc organised transport.
By-Law No 9
At any CGI tournament, that event must at all times be under the direct physical control of the designated CGI officer of the day, acting in the capacity as Tournament Director or his/her duly appointed delegate.
By-Law No 10
Except where there are specific rules in the tournament conditions relating to playoffs, in events run by CGI, any playoffs shall be played as directed by the Tournament Director.
