Golf in Schools

  > Home > Golf Development > Golf in Schools

Canterbury Golf offers Kiwi Golf to children in schools giving them a fundamental class which is fun and exciting but also learning the grip, stance and posture as well as game structure.

Session 1 teaches the children:
• Full swing
• Chipping

Session 2 concentrates on the pitch shot, getting height and trying to land the ball in an umbrella, kids love it and it’s great fun.

Session 3 is putting all of the skills together into a fun game format of:
• a driving range (hitting the ball as far as they can)
• a obstacle course for chipping, trying to get it into a hoola hoop for the lowest score
• a straightest hit section with tennis balls
• a make shift golf hole

General Information
• All sessions take a minimum of 45 minutes
• All gear is supplied, all the class has to do is come out to the field and it will all be ready
• Hitting mats are used to protect the grass
• Soft balls are used to reduce the chance of injury or broken windows
• The class teacher is encouraged to participate throughout the session, so she/he can help students in follow up sessions they may like to conduct.
• Sport Canterbury has recognised this in the past as INservice training for teachers.
