I have been enthusiastic about golf since a young age, the game is always presenting itself with new challenges, and you never stop learning. I have been playing the game 20 years and working in the industry for more than 10 years.

After a successful amateur career I turned professional in 1995. Based in Nelson at the Greenacres G.C, I spent 6 years there with a 6-month break in Canada where I worked at a busy public course and played several tournaments.

I played in various pro-am events around N.Z. with my first success when I was selected to represent N.Z. at the Australian Futures Tournament. My best finish was 1st equal in the Club Professional Championship and in that year Finishing 10th on the N.Z. Order of Merit.

I moved to Christchurch with my partner in 1998. I was based at the Harewood G.C for 5 ½ years. I recognised early that my strength lied in teaching. Here I taught many members, visitors and assisted students staying during the summer. I enjoy relating to people of all ages and nationalities. In 2003 I received my AAA accreditation from the PGA, the highest qualification in Australasia.

I am proud to be Head of Coaching Services at Garden City Golf. The Company has an exciting vision for its future and its clients and I am looking forward to being part of a winning team. I have a large clientele and it is very satisfying to share in the successes of my students.

Several players I have coached are now K.P.G.A certified.
I am working with a number of other players at different stages to reaching this level. I have a good relationship with many Professionals in the industry and am familiar with a number of different coaching styles.

My goal is to become a world-recognised coach. This will be achieved through a joint commitment between my students and myself. I believe in putting my students first, their satisfaction is my best form of advertising.

I have had 25 years of golfing experience for my pupils to draw upon. My amateur career includes representing Canterbury, New Zealand twice at the World Eisenhower Team Championships before I turned professional and spent five years playing on the Australasian PGA Tour.

My extensive golf playing experience and ability to relate to a wide variety of people has enabled me to carve out a successful golfing career as both a player and coach.

Currently I am teaching players of all ages and ability. I am always keenly involved with the development of Canterbury golf squads, teams, juniors, beginners, and talented individual players who are playing in Canterbury golf teams from the U16 age group through to the senior team, and master’s team.

While I still compete in selected tournaments during the year, I dedicate my time and effort in teaching others and inspiring them to reach their golfing potential.

Mike Henderson

I have been a N.Z.P.G.A. Golf Professional since 1980. During that time I have coached players of all levels and ability from the beginner golfer to the Tournament Professional. Many of the coaching skills I have learnt are a direct result of my many years of involvement with the European PGA Tour.
