Tournament Conditions

Brownie Cup Rules & Conditions

1. The Brownie Cup was donated by Barry Brownie in 2002 for match play competition betweenteams from clubs belonging to the Central Canterbury Golf Sub-Association. This was a new competition for intermediate players between the Central Canterbury Shield and the Paterson Cup competitions.
2. Clubs belonging to the Central Canterbury area are : Akaroa, Burnham, Charteris Bay, Ellesmere, Greendale, Hororata, Kaituna, Lincoln, Tai Tapu and Weedons.
PROGRAMMES AND COURSES
3. The courses to be played on shall be selected by the executive committee. A Match Programme setting out times and dates of fixtures will be forwarded to all clubs participating in the competition.
4. Clubs entering teams shall be required to make their courses available for matches if required by the executive committee.
TEAMS
5. Teams consist of six male players. These players must be full financial or life members of a club listed in Rule 2.No player shall play for more than one team each year in the competition.
HANDICAPS
6. Players must be handicapped by the club they play for.
7. Players must play in strict order of handicap. The aggregate team handicap is to be a minimum of 55.0 with an individual maximum of 15.0.
8. Handicaps are those of the weekend prior to the match.
CARDS
9. All players must complete score cards. These are to correctly filled in and handed by the team captain to the host club representative. The team captain is to certify on the results sheet that all his team have handed in their cards. Failure to do so will result in the team being disqualified.
CONDITIONS OF PLAY
10. The competition shall be match play off the stick over 18 holes.
11. The team with the greater number of matches will receive two points in the competition. In the case of a draw both teams receive one point each.
12. Play shall be on Sundays starting at 12.00 noon
13. If a player arrives late, but within five minutes of tee off time, he loses the first hole. If he arrives later than this he is disqualified.
14. Teams winning by default or having their opponents disqualified shall be awarded a win by 5/0.
15a. At the conclusion of the round robin competition, the team with the greater number of match wins shall be awarded the Tai Tapu Trophy. In the case of two or more teams finishing equal on match points, individual games won will then decide the winner. If teams are still tied then the trophy will be shared.
15b. At the conclusion of the round robin competition, the leading four teams will be seeded for semi-finals play relative to their finishing position. In the event of a tie for a top four position, a sudden death playoff will take place with one drawn player of equal team ranking from each team being selected by lot. Semi-final play off order will be 1 plays 4, 2 plays 3. In the event of a tie in the final, the same play off rules as above will apply, with the winner being awarded the Brownie Cup.
MATCH COMMITTEE
16. The Central Canterbury executive committee shall appoint a match committee to control the Brownie Cup each year. The host clubs is responsible for running the match of the day.
ENTRY FEE
17. The entry fee for each team is to be paid to Canterbury Golf Inc. at the time of entry.
LOCAL RULES
18. The local rules of the club where the matches are being played must be observed by the competitors.
RESULTS
19. It shall be the duty for all team captains whether winning or losing to complete and sign a results sheet for the match played. These sheets are to be faxed or posted by the host club representative to Canterbury Golf Inc. Fax 359 4001 or PO Box 39 014, Harewood, Christchurch 8545, to be received by the Wednesday following the competition. PROTESTS
20. Any protest concerning the result of any match in the competition must be lodged in writing and reach Canterbury Golf Inc by the Wednesday following the match.
