CANTERBURY NORTH
INTER-CLUB COMPETITIONS 2010

TEMPLETON CUP

To be eligible to participate in Inter-Club Competitions, players must be fully paid financial members of a Canterbury club and entitled to full playing rights within that club’s rules. Should a player be a member of more than one club, the player may only play for one club during that season.

Duties of the Team Captain
Each team captain is responsible for ensuring:

1. That his players are all eligible to play under the requirements above.

2. That he has a full team available for each round and the team total handicap index is within the limits of the competition and completed (refer rule 4) Team order to be entered on result sheet and handicap indexes entered in column provided before play.

3. That all members of his team are aware of the venues, times and rules of the competition.

4. Clubs with NO CATERERS team captains will collect $6.00 from each player as payment for morning cups of tea and afternoon tea and hand in money with team sheet (this does not include lunch).

5. That all players complete a score card for handicap purposes (to include ‘markers’ section of the score card). Failure to submit a card will result in disqualification of that team member.

Duties of the Host Club
The host club shall ensure:

1. Arrange a display board and list the following:-
a) That result sheets are available for team listings prior to play.
b) A draw be displayed showing where teams are starting with a shotgun start if possible or as many
starting tees possible at 8.30am and prior to 1.00pm are arranged.
c) Any special or local rules be displayed.

2. That early morning cups of tea and afternoon tea are available. (Refer to item 4 in details of Team Captain.)

3. That all result sheets are completed, signed after the matches and that all match cards are processed into the NZG Handicap System.

4. Ensure these result sheets to be sent to Canterbury Golf Incorporated within 3 days following the competition date.

5. Prior to play commencing, that all players are reminded to “maintain their place in the field and keep up with play”.

Duties of the Duty Team Captain
The duty team captain should:

1. Thank the host club and any other announcements which need to be made.

Rules
1. Games are to be played on the dates and at the venues set down by the CNG.

2. Teams will consist of 8 players and a player may represent only one Templeton Cup team during the year. A player who has played no more than two rounds in the Kaikoura Cup during the year may play Templeton Cup. Penalty is individual disqualification.

3. Starting times will be 8.30am and before 1.00pm as above.
For the final, play should commence at 11.30am to ensure ample time for a play off if needed.

4. a) That team handicap index’s that come up to a minimum of 110 at the first round, apply for the next 5 rounds including quarter finals, semi-finals and finals, ie if a team falls under 110 during the rest of the competition it will be OK.(as long as original team plays) If any player has to be replaced at any time during the competition, the team must come up to the minimum of 110. If any of the original team members have to pull out after the first round is completed, that member may re-enter the team with no penalty in the relation to handicap. Maximum handicap index 24.0

5. The Result sheet must be filled out with team order and handicap indexes in space provided.(handicap indexes can be taken up to 7 days before that round.) Penalty for non presentation is one point per team per round.

6. Teams must play in order of handicap index, as on the result sheet listing. Should a player default and the team has less than 8 players, team members must play in the position which they would have held should the player be present. Penalty is disqualification of all players out of position.

7. All matches shall be played “off the stick” (ie no shots given).

8. All matches shall be played unless the course is officially closed. Should the course be closed during the course of a round, the result of each match shall be as at the last completed hole. Should the course be closed on the day before play commences, a draw shall be declared, if an alternative course cannot be found.

9. Points will be allotted for each match as follows – 2 for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss. In the event of a team default, the non defaulting team will receive 2 points and 8 individual wins.

10. Any protest to be lodged with Canterbury Golf Incorporated by the Wednesday following the round in question.

11. Code of Conduct – Players must not consumer alcohol during play in any competition under the control of the Match Committee. Penalty individual disqualification.

12. The Match Committee can give dispensation where deemed appropriate on a case by case basis. Such dispensation must be applied for in writing and any decision made shall be final.

Finals Play
1. 1. At the end of the competition, the three teams in Sections 1 & 2 and the two teams in Section 3 that secure the greatest number of points will go forward to Quarter Finals day. In the event of a tie for any place there will be a count back using the following methods in order to decide the qualifiers:
i) Number of team 2 point wins
ii) Least number of team loses over 6 rounds (5 rounds for Section 3)
iii) Number of individual wins
iv) Descending count back from round 6 (round 5 for Section 3) (games points first) until teams are separated.

2. All matches if possible will be played at a neutral course.

3. The eight qualifying teams will be seeded according to the average points tally of each team i.e. Sections 1 & 2 will have their points tally divided by six and Section 3 will have their points tally divided by five. In the event of a tie for a seedings place, a count back using the formula in (1) will be used over the first 5 rounds. In the upper half of the draw 1 will play 8, 4 will play 5 and in the lower half of the draw 2 will play 7 and 3 will play 6.

4. In the event of a tie, 4 matches each, in the quarters or semi-finals, the match will be decided on a total of victory margins, ie holes won. For example a 4 and 3 win and a 6 and 4 win equals 10 points. A further tie from this formula means the team with the higher seedings goes forward.

5. Semi-final and final will be played in conjunction with Kaikoura Cup and Gardner Trophy.

7. Final – In the event of a tie, the winner shall be decided by a play-off. A player is to be selected from each team to participate in a play-off over the holes designated by the Match Committee of the day.

8. Both teams contesting the final will go on to represent Canterbury North against Canterbury Central.

Inter-Association Play
1. Two trophies are contested between North and Central Canterbury after competition winners are decided, the Ashby Bergh Cup contested by the final winners and the McGuire Hendon Cup played for by the runners up.

2. These matches are hosted alternately by North and Central.

3. Bring a handicap index sheet, however, the original 8 team members from the finals may play regardless of handicap, otherwise Templeton Cup rules 4, 5 and 6 apply.

4. Ties will be decided as in Finals – rule 7.

5. Both Associations will pay half the meal costs each.

6. The winners of the Ashby Bergh and their opposition will go on to play the winners and the runner up of the Metropolitan Competition from Christchurch clubs.
