Pegasus Make it Back-to-Back Kaikoura Cups

Kaikoura Cup Winners 2017 Pegasus LR The North Canterbury interclub finals were played at Rangiora Golf Club last Sunday. The weather was fine if a little chilly and the course was presented in good condition with the greens in particular being superb. The semi-finals in the Kaikoura Cup saw Pegasus Blue defeat Amuri 5-1 while the second semi-final between Kaiapoi and Pegasus White required a playoff after the teams were locked up at 3 a piece. Kaiapoi’s Ryan Adam prevailed on the second playoff hole to secure their place in the final. The final was won by Pegasus Blue who prevailed 5-1 over Kaiapoi's Austin Hamilton, Joe Piggott,...

Harewood Win Metro B Marathon Play-Off

The Metro B Interclub Final was finally completed at Coringa on Sunday with Harewood clinching the title against top qualifiers Bottle Lake after a marathon sudden death play-off, proceeding over two days. The initial Finals Day Final on 30 April ended with both teams locked in a 4-4 draw and two sudden death play-off holes were completed before bad light stopped play. Kaiapoi - Women's Weekend Interclub Champions

Weekend Womens Interclub Winners 2017 Kaiapoi LR This year's trend of upset finals continued with Kaiapoi defeating Greendale 3 matches to 1 in the Women's Weekend final held at Christchurch on Sunday 21 May.  The day started cold and wintry but improved somewhat in the later stages of this match. Greendale's Dale Macdonald, Kath Adams, Janelle Lewis and Diane Gibbs came to the final having been undefeated in round robin play and the semi final.  However the Kaiapoi team of  from left, Janine Hosking, Suzanne Griffith, Michelle Anngow and Dedrie Trnjanin turned the tables on their more favoured opponents winning 3-1 with the scoreline not reflecting the closeness...

Upsets at Women's Interclub Finals Day

36 Hole Silver Womens Interclub Winners 2017 Waitikiri LR The Women’s 36 Hole Silver and Open Finals together with the 18 Hole Final were played at Christchurch Golf Club yesterday in sunny, calm conditions with the course in magnificent order.  In the 36 Hole Silver Final fourth qualifiers Waitikiri played second qualifiers Clearwater in a dour struggle with two singles matches being decided on the final hole and another on the penultimate hole before Waitikiri’s (from left)  Rosalie Neaves, Pam Ellis, Cheryl Kemp and Lyn Robertson overcame Clearwater’s Rachel Eder, Nicky Wright, Virginia Faass and Lynda Vieceli 3.5-2.5.             In the 36 Open Final it was an all Tai Tapu affair with...

2017 Lamb & Hayward CGI Tour Championship & Am Am

Tour Championship 2017 Tim May Tiaki Ogilvie The Tour Championship is the final event on the Canterbury Golf Order of Merit schedule which sees players accumulate points over the season based on their tournament placings.  The final Tour Championship is also an opportunity for our Canterbury Golf Sponsors and Volunteers to be paired with our top players in a fun 4BBB Am-Am event.  The Volunteer Management Am-Am was won by the pairing of Tim May and Tiaki Ogilvie with a net 61 with Maddie May and Lina Park on net 64 and Warren Houghton partnered with Cameron Harker on net 66 on a countback.  Prizes for this...

George Stringer Passes Away

Canterbury Central stalwart George Stringer passed away late last week. he was found at home by a neighbour. George provided over 20 years service to his club Burnham, and as Secretary/Treasurer for Canterbury Central Golf where he was also a Life Member.  He was also a member of the Canterbury Eagles Golfing Society. A memorial service to celebrate George's life is being held at Christchurch Crematorium Funeral Services (65 Vickerys Rd, Wigram) on Sunday 14 May at 11am.

Tom Parker Selected for Junior Golf World Cup Team

Tom Parker Stare Down New Zealand Golf has selected an experienced boys side to compete at the 2017 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup at the Chukyo Golf Club in Japan next month.  The 2017 team has just one change from last year with Daniel Hillier (Wellington), Henry Spring (BOP) and Inia Logan (Otago) all returning, while in-form debutant Tom Parker (Canterbury) will join them.   Teeing off on June 13, the Junior Golf World Cup is run over four days of stroke play competition.  The format of this event takes the three best of the four scores each day to produce a daily total.  The...

Russley Dominant in Presidents Interclub Final

Presidents Grade Winners 2017 Russley3 The Presidents Grade Interclub Final was played at Christchurch Golf Club last Sunday between Russley and Harewood in cool overcast conditions with the course in excellent order.  The Russley team of, from left Keith Hiscoke, Gary Scannell, Lindsay Penman, Johnathan Curtis, Gavin KIng, Tony Daly, Colin Goodman, Chris Le Cren, Stephen French, Gary Shepherd and John Sutton defeated Harewood’s Tony Marriner, Tony Ralfe, Wayne Coleman, Paul Dale, Kim Dale, Mike Regan, Mike Stanley and Gary Charmley. Liz Newman Wins World Masters Medal

Liz Newman Masters Games 2017 LR Liz Newman, Avondale Golf Club 9 Holer, recently competed in the World Masters Games with distinction and this is her story. The World Masters Games is held every 4 years, it started in Canada in 1985 with the goal to encourage people to play sport throughout life.  In 2017 Auckland was host to 28,000 people competing in 28 different sports.
