It was a weekend to remember for Canterbury golf, with both our women’s and men’s representative teams crowned champions at the 2026 South Island Interprovincials, played at the historic Otago Golf Club in Dunedin.
The women’s team produced a flawless display, winning every one of their 24 individual matches. The men’s team went through the round robin unbeaten and edged a gripping title race with Otago on the individual wins countback.
Women: A Perfect Weekend
Played on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, the women’s event saw Canterbury, Otago and Aorangi meet twice each. Canterbury won all four of their team matches 6–0, finishing with a perfect 24 individual wins from 24.
Every member of the side, Maddie May, Junie Chang, Alice Fry, Vanessa Lim, Nutcha Sirawattanakul and Zaria Bourne, finished the weekend with a perfect four from four. Many of those wins were emphatic. Junie Chang and Alice Fry both won 8/7 against Otago on Saturday, and Zaria Bourne closed out Sunday with an 8/7 win over Aorangi.
The tightest contest came on Saturday, when Nutcha Sirawattanakul held off Otago’s Joanna Ke to win 2 up. Vanessa Lim also had to work hard for a 2/1 win over Ruby Lee in the same match.
Otago finished second on two team points after beating Aorangi on both days. Aorangi’s Angela Gerkin was a standout for her side, winning both of her matches against Otago 4/3.

Men: Title Decided on Countback
The men’s event was a five-team round robin between Canterbury, Otago, Tasman, Southland and Aorangi, and it could hardly have been closer at the top. Canterbury and Otago both finished unbeaten on 3.5 team points after their head-to-head match was halved 3–3.
The title came down to the individual wins tiebreaker, and Canterbury took it by the narrowest of margins: 19 to Otago’s 18.5. Every half point across the round robin counted.
Canterbury made a strong start on day one, beating Aorangi 5–1 and Tasman 5.5–0.5. Day two brought another 5.5–0.5 win over Southland, along with the 3–3 halve against Otago. Those big wins built the individual tally that decided the title. In the clash with Otago, Yuki Miya beat Tory Scott 2/1 and Seb May beat Connor Howes 2 up. Zach May and Nash De Klerk each earned crucial halves.
Yuki Miya and Seb May led the way with perfect four from four records. Zach May was also unbeaten with three wins and a half. Thomas Clayson added three wins, including a 6/5 victory over Southland. Nash De Klerk matched that 6/5 margin in the same match.
Credit must go to Otago, who pushed Canterbury all the way. Duncan Croudis and Parker A’luesi both won all four of their matches. Tasman finished third on two team points.
The result is a strong boost ahead of December, when the Otago Golf Club hosts the New Zealand Interprovincials. A weekend of competitive golf on the same course gave the Canterbury men valuable preparation for the national event.
Final Standings
Congratulations to both Canterbury teams, and thank you to all players, managers and volunteers who made the weekend possible.
