Russley Golf Club have gone back-to-back in retaining their Pollock Cup title, winning out in the final this afternoon at Hororata Golf Club.
In a day that saw both the semi-finals and final played on the same day, the initial semi-final match-up’s saw table toppers Waimairi Beach take on 4th placed Waitikiri, with Russley taking on second placed qualifiers Christchurch.
The Russley vs Christchurch match turned out to be a little one-sided with Russley’s young team prevailing by a margin of 5-1 in what was a suprising result given Christchurch’s experienced line-up. In the other semi-final, it was extremely tight, with top seeds Waimairi Beach favourites to progress, Waitikiri gave them an almighty scare with a 3-3 scoreline after regulation forcing a play-off hole. Waimairi managed to hold their nerve however to win that and progress to the final.
The afternoon brought continued testing conditions with high winds out at Hororata, but with both teams upto to the task. However, it was the Russley young guns that got the job done led by their three Canterbury reps in Junie Chang, Alice Fry, and Vanessa Lim all getting wins at the top of the order. This was complimented by a win to Olvia Guan to take out an overall 4-2 victory.
