Russley Presidents completed a very successful season by overcoming Harewood 5.5 – 2.5 in the final of the Presidents Grade knockout competition played at Waitikiri on Sunday.
The match was played in perfect conditions on a beautifully presented course. Although the end result looks comprehensive, the match looked like being tied until the last few holes. Russley had earlier defeated Avondale in one semi-final, while Harewood had overcome Clearwater.
Russley had earlier secured the prestigious round robin on the final day by overcoming McLeans Island 4.5 – 3.5 on their home course, while leaders Clearwater stumbled at the final hurdle losing to Waitikiri 5-3 in one of the closest final season tables seen in the Presidents Grade.
The President’s Grade individual MVP for the season was Avondale’s Greg Jones, in what proved to be a very popular result. Greg finishing with an individual record of 10 wins, 2 halves, and just one defeat.
