The 2026 Canterbury Golf women’s interclub season wrapped up in impressive fashion recently, with four competitions concluding across a series of semi-finals and finals held at clubs throughout Canterbury.
The season belonged emphatically to Clearwater Golf Club, who produced a remarkable clean sweep of titles by winning the Women’s Silver, Women’s 18-Hole 6’s, Women’s 18-Hole 4’s and Women’s Weekend competitions.
Women’s Silver
The Women’s Silver competition once again delivered a highly competitive regular season, with teams battling across a format that combined four singles match play contests alongside a four-ball component worth two additional points.
Clearwater set the benchmark throughout the qualifying rounds, finishing top of the table unbeaten with six wins and two ties to accumulate 14 section points and an impressive 37 match points. Waitikiri secured second place with five wins, while Harewood finished third ahead of Tai Tapu, Russley and Weedons.
The semi-finals were hosted at Waimairi Beach Golf Club where Clearwater continued their dominant form with a convincing 4–2 victory to book their place in the final, while Waitikiri edged through a tightly contested semi-final overcoming Harewood 3.5-2.5.

The final, played at McLeans Island Golf Club, saw Clearwater cap off their outstanding campaign in style, defeating Waitikiri 6–0 to secure the Women’s Silver title. View the full Women’s Silver results – HERE.

Women’s 18-Hole 6’s
The Women’s 18-Hole 6’s competition produced one of the closest regular seasons across all women’s grades.
Clearwater and McLeans Island shared top spot on 13 section points, with Clearwater narrowly taking first place on match points after accumulating 28 points across the season. Coringa and Harewood both finished strongly on 10 section points, ahead of both Rawhiti and Akaroa.
Semi-final action took place at Weedons Golf Club, with Clearwater delivering another commanding performance to win their match 4.5–1.5 and advance comfortably to the decider. Coringa progressed from the other semi-final after an incredibly close encounter which eventually saw them prevail over McLeans Island by 3.5-2.5.
The final was held at Russley Golf Club, where Clearwater again proved too strong, defeating Coringa 4.5–1.5 to add another trophy to their growing collection. View the full Women’s 18-Hole 6’s results – HERE.
Women’s 18-Hole 4’s
The Women’s 18-Hole 4’s competition featured another tightly packed leaderboard during round robin play, with teams split into two zones of 9-teams each.
In zone 1 Clearwater finished at the top of the table on 14 section points after a consistently strong season, narrowly ahead of Lincoln, Waitikiri and Tai Tapu. Meanwhile in zone 2 Bottle Lake and Christchurch topped the standings with their 12 points each with Bottle Lake securing top seed with their 21 match points. Third and fourth spots were claimed by Avondale and Kaiapoi.

The semi-finals played at Weedons saw Clearwater record a 3–1 victory over Christchurch to reach the final, while in the other semi-final between Lincoln and Bottle Lake a play-off was required with the teams locked at 2-2 following an extremely tight match. Lincoln eventually winning however on the first play-off hole.
The championship match at Russley Golf Club delivered one of the most dramatic finishes of the season. Clearwater and Lincoln could not be separated after regulation, with the contest finishing tied at 2–2. As such another play-off was required to determine the champion, with Clearwater eventually prevailing on the second hole to secure yet another women’s interclub title. Women’s Weekend
The Women’s Weekend competition also provided plenty of close contests throughout the regular season, which again featured two sections of teams.
Rangiora topped Section One after a strong campaign, finishing ahead of McLeans Island, Kaiapoi and Harewood. In Section Two, Clearwater led the way after another outstanding qualifying season, finishing ahead of Russley, Lincoln and Everglades.
The semi-finals were played at Templeton Golf Club, where Russley claimed a 3–1 victory in their semi-final over Rangiora to advance, while Clearwater managed to overcome McLeans Island again in a first hole play-off after the teams were tied at 2-2 in regulation.
The final at Harewood Golf Club proved another dominant affair, with Clearwater overcoming Russley 4-0 to secure victory and complete an extraordinary clean sweep across all four women’s interclub competitions.

9-Hole Mixed Match Play Interclub
The 9-Hole Mixed Match Play competition saw Rangiora claim top sport after round robin play with their 11 section points including 5 wins, they were closely followed by Russley in second just a single point further back with Avondale and Waimairi Beach claiming the final semi spots in third and fourth respectively.
The semi-finals were played at Kaiapoi Golf Club on May 4th with both matches won by narrow margins. In the first match top seeds Rangiora took on Waimairi Beach and manged to prevail by a margin of 2.5-1.5.

Similarly in the other contest between Russley and Avondale the same marhin appeared, this time with Avondale getting home by 2.5-1.5 to set up the final on May 18th at McLeans Island.The final turned out to be an even tighter affair than the two semi-finals with both Rangiora and Avondale tied at 2-a piece after regulation requiring a play-off, and it was the top seeds Rangiora that perhaps deservedly got the win prevailing on the first hole. 9-Hole Mixed Stableford
The format of this competition see teams of four compete playing for individual Stableford points across 9-holes, which then combine for a team stableford score, with the best teams score in the match deceiding who wins. After regular season play it was the team from Tai Tapou who topped the list with 12 teams wins, over Harewood who also had 12 team wins, separated only by total Stableford points. The third and fourth positions went to Russley and Ellesmere respectively.
In the semi finals at Kaiapoi, Tai Tapu defeated Ellesmere 68-64 while Russley overcame Harewood by margin of 76-62, to set up a Tai Tapu v Russley final. In that match, top seeds Tai Tapu finished their season in style winning in a very tight contest 73-71 over a brave Russley outfit. View the full 9-Hole Stableford results – HERE.
