Pollock Cup - Round 4

A fine sunny day greeted players at Russley yesterday and after a short frost delay provided ideal conditions for the fourth round of Pollock Cup.  Both Christchurch and Pegasus continued their superior form with convincing 6-0 wins over Waimairi Beach and Weedons respectively. For Christchurch, Catherine Bell, Olive Tapu, Melissa Newburn, Margaret-Mary Coughlan, Mel Brew and Robyn Gillespie had wins while Hillary O'Connor, Danielle Price, Rion Ishizawa, Jessica Crosbie, Karen De Latour and Bobbi Oliver registered wins for Pegasus. Woodward Cup - Round 6

Waitikiri Golf Club was the host for the sixth round of Woodward Cup where sunny, calm conditions greeted players. The hosts found themselves in a tight tussle with Avondale with six games going down the last hole. Waitikiri had wins to Antony Dale, Chris Bond and Geoff Rudduck whilst Avondale's wins came from Haupai Puha and Nathan Andrews, along with Hayden Burns who turned in a dramatic win at number one to ensure the teams would share points at four a piece. Juliana Hung Selected for Youth Olympic Games

Juliana Hung NZ Stroke Play Cropped Canterbury’s Juliana Hung and Auckland’s Jimmy Zheng have been selected to represent New Zealand at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires. The pair have been selected for their great form and are the highest ranked juniors in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. They will be 16-years-old at the time of the games and now get the opportunity to compete against some of the world’s best young golfers where the small bracket of young athletes aged from 15 to 18 years old will strive for gold. Town vs Country

Town v Country 2018 LR2 The Annual Town vs Country event was played at Coringa yesterday in cool, windy conditions with the course in great order. In the Men's Seniors, Country overcame a 4-2 foursomes deficit in the morning to win the afternoon singles 7.5-4.5, with some very close matches going down to the wire, before defeating Town 9.5-8.5.The Men's Masters ended in a convincing win for Country, winning the foursomes 3-1 and their singles matches 6-2 for a 9-3 win.In the Men's Juniors Country also overcame a 3-1 morning foursomes loss winning their singles 5-3 to square their match with Town 6-6.The Women's Masters were...

Jason Sincock Breaks Woodward Cup Appearances Record

Jason Sincock Congratulations to Jason Sincock who broke the record for Woodward Cup appearances.  Murray Brown had held the remarkable record with 233 games played. Murray has held this record since 2006 with his playing record spanning from 1974 to 2012 playing for Waitikiri, Christchurch and Russley winning 125 games and halving 26. Jason Sincock notched up the record breaking appearance with a win at his 234th game of Woodward Cup against Templeton on Sunday. Jason's Woodward Cup debut came in 1985 when he played for Avondale, he has since gone on to play for Waitikiri, North Canterbury, Kaiapoi, Coringa and Christchurch teams....

Pollock Cup - Round 3

Round Three of Pollock Cup was played in good conditions at Weedons Country Club yesterday. Competition leaders Pegasus and Russley showed top form with decisive defeats over Waitikiri and Waimairi Beach respectively. For Pegasus Hillary O'Connor, Rion Ishizawa, Jessica Crosbie, Karen De Latour and Bobbi Oliver had wins with Diane Archer registering a big win for Waitikiri. Russley were dominant in their match with convincing wins to Juliana Hung, Amy Weng, Maddie May, Yoyo Fu, Jasmine Clancy and Mihee Woo. Matt McLean Confirmed for 2018 Asia-Pacific Amateur

Matt McLean Muriwai Open Six New Zealand players have been confirmed to compete at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) to be played at Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore in October.  Acting as one of the globes biggest amateur events, this strong contingent of Kiwis will all have a chance of securing a place at both the 2019 Masters Tournament and The 148th Open Championship if they were to win the 72-hole individual stroke play event.  New Zealand Squad in order of World Amateur Golf Rankings: Daniel Hillier (23), Denzel Ieremia (205), Luke Brown (272), Matthew Mclean (398), Charlie Hillier (411) and Kerry Mountcastle (431).  With Mclean being...

Woodward Cup - Round 4

All four seasons greeted the players in the fourth round of Woodward Cup at Russley Golf Club yesterday. Warm-ups started in warm and calm conditions, but this changed around the time players teed off where they met high winds, rain and even hail. Russley turned things around and used their home venue to capture their first win of the season and a convincing one at that against Waitikiri.
