Woodward Cup Review for 6 September

Round four of the 2020 Woodward Cup was held yesterday at Christchurch Golf Club in fine and sunny conditions. Hosts Christchurch took on Templeton and were too strong winning 5-3, with their top order doing the damage. The top five of Jordan Bakermans, Marcel Boet, Mike Toeke, Tom Parker, and Richard Reed all had wins, while for Templeton it was the bottom three that got the points - Jordan Latter, Tom Wilson, and Josh Simpson.  Russley took on Harewood and interest centred around the No.1 battle between Matt McLean and Reid Hilton. Canterbury Golf 9 Hole Tournament

CG 9 Hole Tournament Winner 2020 Linda Downes LR The Canterbury Golf 9 Hole Tournament was held at Bottle Lake Golf Club on Monday in warm, sunny conditions and the course in great order. 38 golfers played in the annual tournament with Bottle Lake's Margaret Walker winning Grade 1 with 19 stableford points, from Vicki Hight (Waitikiri) and Kathryn Ferris (Avondale) both on 18 points. Russley's Linda Downes won Grade 2 with 20 points from Kae Golding (Russley), Judith Godman (Kaiapoi) and Owen Patchett (Amberley) all on 19 points. Ashby Bergh Trophy & McGuire Hendon Cup

McGuire Hendon Cup Winners 2020 Amberley Gold LR The Ashby Bergh Trophy and McGuire Hendon Cup matches were played at Tai Tapu Golf Club on Sunday in fine, warm conditions with the course in great order. The Ashby Bergh Trophy match was between Weedons Black (Canterbury Central Patterson Cup Winner) and Rangiora Red (Canterbury North Templeton Cup Winner) with the Weedons Black team of, from left  Martin Bogue, John Callaghan, Stephen MacDonald, Tony Fitzgerald, David Butts and Michael Prendergast defeating Rangiora Red’s Kevin Jones, Stretch Renai, Grant Hoben, Nigel Seaton, Murray Goodwin and Dave Millar 4-2. Tight Tussles at Town v Country

Reid The annual Town v Country fixture provided a great test of golf between the teams with 52 players competing. Blustery conditions made it a tough test for the players at the Russley Golf Club. The Foursomes in the morning provided some great comradery with matches going down to the wire. The Country team led the seniors 3.5-2.5, while the Town team led the masters 2.5-1.5 and the juniors 2-1. The Singles provided some great matchups which provided the Canterbury Selectors with plenty of great golf to watch. The Town team proved too strong in the afternoon to take out all three trophies. Woodward & Pollock Cup Review - 24 August

Canterbury's premier interclub competitons, the Woodward and Pollock Cups, are well underway with last weekend's play seeing round three being completed for the Woodward Cup at Russley Golf Club, and round two for the Pollock Cup being completed at Pegasus Golf Club. Woodward Cup The host club had started their campaign with wins over Pegasus and Weedons, and did not disappoint in round three with a comprehensive 6.5-1.5 win over Waitikiri. 2020 Canterbury Golf Annual Awards Dinner Cancelled

It is with regret that we advise the cancellation of the 2020 Canterbury Golf Annual Awards Dinner scheduled for Friday 21 August at Christchurch Golf Club. This is due to the continuation of Level 2 and the restrictions around mass gatherings and social distancing. All ticket payments made will be refunded. We will look at alternative options to announce the awards and launch Friends of Canterbury Golf.

COVID-19: Interclub this weekend

Under Alert Level 2 (or better) all Canterbury interclub competitions scheduled for this weekend will go ahead. There are no competitions that will exceed the 100 mass gathering restriction. Should the government move Canterbury to Alert Level 3 then interclub will be cancelled.

2020 Pollock Cup Review

The 2020 Pollock Cup competition starts this Sunday at Harewood Golf Club with six teams competing; Christchurch, Harewood, Pegasus, Russley, Waitikiri and great to see Clearwater returning after a two-year hiatus. Pegasus and Clearwater meet in the first game of the round and all eyes will be on the top of the order clash between Pegasus’ import Momoka Kobori (Rangiora) and Clearwater’s Amelia Garvey, both back from University in America. Canterbury Golf Annual Awards Dinner

The postponed 2020 Canterbury Golf Annual Awards Dinner is being held at the Christchurch Golf Club on Friday 21 August. Normally held in early June, the celebration of golf in Canterbury was postponed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Another stellar evening is planned and will be led once again by MC extraordinaire Phil McGoldrick. We will be celebrating the success of both players and volunteers throughout the evening as well.
