At Canterbury Golf, our fundamental purpose is to foster, support, and grow the game of golf throughout our region. Golf courses are more than just places to play—they are valuable community assets that provide recreation, wellbeing, environmental benefits, and opportunities for people of all ages to connect through our sport.
There is currently a petition sitting with NZ Parliament which comes in response to the recent purchase of Pegasus Golf Club and subsequent statements from the new owner indicating an intention to seek approval to redevelop the site from a golf course into what is likely to become a housing development. It is understood that this intended redevelopment is likely to be sought via a proposed fast-track development application, which has the potential to see an established golf course lost from the Canterbury landscape.
While Canterbury Golf is committed to supporting the growth of communities across our region, we also believe it is important to protect and preserve the golfing facilities that serve current and future generations. The petition, which has been initiated by the Pegasus Residents Association, provides an opportunity for community members to have their voices heard on this important issue. We encourage members of the golfing community and the wider public to learn more about the proposal and its potential impact, and to consider supporting the petition by adding their signature.
