Canterbury Golf has published its Annual Report for the 2025-26 season, capping off another year of strong growth across the region, and used the milestone to unveil its new five-year Strategic Plan for 2026-2030. Both documents will be presented at the Annual General Meeting on 17 September.
A Year of Growth
The past 12 months saw Canterbury Golf’s membership base grow by 6.05%, pushing the region past 15,500 club members for the first time – now the second largest club-membership sport in Canterbury. Rounds played across Canterbury clubs also climbed to over 637,000 for the year, an increase of 5%.
Some of the season’s highlights include:
- 26 interclub competitions delivered, involving more than 1,500 players
- 28 tournaments delivered with 2,140 participants
- Canterbury’s Boys team claimed the NZ Interprovincial title for the first time since 2017, with the Women’s and Men’s Masters teams also claiming South Island titles
- 27.5% growth in junior boys’ membership and 29.5% growth in junior girls’ membership
President Dion Kerr says it has been “another year of strong growth, sound governance, and continued momentum for Canterbury Golf,” with participation, competition and engagement across member clubs all trending positively throughout the season.
General Manager Blair Minton says the achievements reflect the collective effort of clubs, staff and volunteers across the district, with the organisation now turning its attention to how it can build on this position of strength.
Introducing the 2026-2030 Strategic Plan
With the 2021-2026 Strategic Plan now complete, Canterbury Golf has released its new plan for the next five years, developed by the Executive and staff in close alignment with Golf New Zealand’s national Statement of Strategic Direction, but importantly is reflective of the current
position and opportunities of the game and our priorities for growth here in Canterbury.
The new plan is built around a clear vision – Golf for all, Golf for Life – and a purpose to enable a thriving golf community in Canterbury that inspires connection, growth, fun and success.
Five strategic priorities will guide the organisation’s work through to 2030:
- Growth – growing the game
- Development – building capability to drive performance
- Connection – a strong and connected golf sector
- Engagement – golf seen as inclusive and accessible
- Leadership and Advocacy – leading and advocating on behalf of the sector in Canterbury
Each priority is underpinned by specific outcomes, measures and initiatives designed to guide Canterbury Golf’s investment and support for clubs over the coming years.
