The Women’s Weekend Interclub Final was played yesterday at Pegasus Golf Club in cold conditions with light drizzle most of the round making playing conditions challenging.
The competition had already had it’s share of upsets, with the third and fourth seeds after round robin play Russley and McLeans Island winning their Semi-Finals to progress to the Final.
The McLeans Island team of Sue Collins, Jeanette Allen, Haley Evans and Marise Wason rose to the occasion with a 3-1 win over Russley’s Carolyn Bleach, Julianne Chung, Chris Erikson and Bridget Hoffman who had a big win to register Russley’s only point. The result was hanging in the balance after the 16th hole with McLeans Island having two wins and Russley one with one match still alive. Handicap strokes given at two of the final three holes were crucial in securing the win for McLeans Island, who also made history for the club winning the interclub competition for the first time.
