Mel Brew and Robyn Gillespie to step down as Canterbury Women’s Selectors

Canterbury Golf would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge and thank both Mel Brew and Robyn Gillespie who have decided to step down from the position of Canterbury Women’s Selectors. Mel will be overseas for large periods of 2023 which was the main contributing factor in what was a difficult decision with Robyn also deciding that the time was right to step back.

Both Mel and Robyn have held these positions for the last 9 years, during which making a significant contribution to Canterbury Representative Women’s golf. Over the years the ladies have put in many hours of dedication and professionalism to undertake the role, initially as part of a panel from 2014-2016 before undertaking the role as co-selectors for the last 6 years.

The pair have overseen the team selections of several South Island Interprovincial winning sides and NZ Interprovincial runner-up team performances, but one particular highlight during their tenure would have to be overseeing the 2015 Women’s NZ Interprovincial victory in Ashburton. The first NZ Women’s Interprovincial Canterbury team victory in 25+ years at the time. Mel and Robyn have shown an immense passion for Canterbury women’s golf overseeing the selection of both girl’s and women’s teams and having witnessed and supported the development of so many Canterbury female players, many of which are now playing the game professionally or now working within the game. Mel and Robbie’s contributions were recognized at the 2019 Canterbury Golf Annual Awards evening where they were awarded service awards. Canterbury Golf would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Mel and Robyn for all their work.
