Woodward Cup

With a warm nor-west breeze blowing it was ideal playing conditions at Coringa Golf Club for the third round of the Woodward Cup yesterday. The course was presented in excellent condition with greens running at a slick 11.5 and playing the black tees presenting a stern challenge to our top players.

The feature match was Christchurch versus Russley and it was a tight affair all the way with three of the matches going to the last hole. Eventually Christchurch prevailed 4.5-3.5 with wins to Nic Kay, Jordan Bakermans, Mike Toeke, Jason Sincock and a half to Richard Reed. 3.5 of Christchurch's points went to their top four players with Sincock beating Jake Roberts 3/1 at No.7. For Russley Mike McAuley, Owen Burgess, and Andrew Dufton showed their experience with wins along with the half for Regan Kilpatrick.

Hosts Coringa were unable to match Harewood and went down 5-3. Bigs wins to Matt McLean, Scott Manyweathers, and Daniel Lundt for Harewood were complemented by close wins to Josh Smith and Sam Watkinson. For Coringa James Howard , John Gaw and Mike Toal were victors.

Pegasus and Templeton drew 4-4. For Pegasus Shaun Allan, Peter Brinsdon, Zach May, and Mike Taylor had wins, while for for Templeton Sam Purdon had a great tussle with Andrew Green at No.1 before winning 1up. Small consolation for Andrew was a hole-in-one on the 13th. Jordan Latter, Rhys Wilson, and Greg Hey also had wins for Templeton.

Bottle Lake beat Weedons 4.5-3.5. For Bottle Lake the top three of Cameron Grant, Kris O'Neill, and Kieran Sharvin won, along with Jason Campbell and Aaron Neill had a half with Bryden Grant. For Weedons Alex Van Shaardenbrug, James Metzger, and Ben Burgess had wins.

Steve Bell had the sole win for Hororata, and Al Sime the half.
