The 2018 Riccarton Park Golf Complex Canterbury 4BBB Championship is being played at Bottle Lake Golf Club this Sunday, and has again attracted a full and quality field to compete for the Canterbury titles.
In the men's field the top rated pair are Templeton's Sam Purdon and Dan Laughton. Nic Kay and Nick Franzmann from Coringa will be looking to go one better than last year when they finished runner-up to Matt McLean and Robert Gregory. Also in the mix are Josh Roche & Hiroki Miya, and Tom Wilson & Dominic Brettkelly. The return of Michael McAuley from university in the US will be of interest. He is paired with Anthony Weatherhead.
In recent years it has been difficult to get into the men's field with entries balloted based on combined handicap. This year an average handicap index of 3.9 was needed to get into the field reflecting a true Canterbury Championship for this format. Gone are the days where you could combine and a low handicapper and a high handicapper and still get in the field.
The women's field is led by the pairing of Juliana Hung and Amy Weng, their nearerst challengers will be Maddie May and Hillary O'Connor, Kim Moggach and Naomi Wallace along with the Otago paring of Annabel Evans and Sumin Kang.
First tee off is at 10am, and with weather prospects improving it should be another good day to kick off what is now traditionally the first tournament of the new season.
