The annual Canterbury 4BBB Championship was played yesterday at Clearwater Golf. While played in overcast conditions the event was fortunate to avoid the predicted rain with the course holding up well following the downpour of the day earlier.
An event and format that draws a lot of interest saw close to 70 pairs registering for the Championship which led to an eventual strong field with many contenders in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions.
In the men’s event, it was the Canterbury representative regular Reid Hilton alongside partner Peter Brinsdon that came away with the Men’s Gross Championship title recording a team score of 66 in an impressive display. This was followed by James Howard and Rohan Ware just 2 shots back who came in for 2nd place shooting 68 and rounding out the podium places were the Clearwater locals Sam McGill and Dominic Brettkelly securing 3rd place with a team of 69. James Ting and Jason Blair secured the Men’s Net top prize with a combined 65 from father and son duo Phillip and James Walker who recorded a 66.
In the women’s event, it was the Waimairi Beach pairing of Deanna Mathews and Aroha Minhinnick who took out the Women’s Gross title with the teenage pair putting up a score of 68. Two shots further back were the Rangiora pair of Sora Kishida and Mikana Suto who came in with a solid 70. In the Women’s Net Clearwater locals Rachel Eder and Lynda Vieceli took out the top spot with a combined 64 while Zaria Borne and Lexi Thomson Hall took out the 2nd place Net prize with a 66.
