Amelia Garvey creates golfing history!

Posted by: on 4 March 2024

Playing on the NXTT tour at the Royal St Cloud golf course in Florida on the weekend, Garvey knocked in the trio of sub-part shots for a round of six-under – which saw her eventually tie for seventh place.

Garvey’s astonishing feat has created sporting history – with NXTT confirming the treble had never been achieved by any professional golfer before. The odds of hitting an albatross (three under par) are six million-to-one. The odds of a pro’ golfer shooting a hole-in-one are approximately 3,000-to-one. The odds of knocking in an eagle are 350-to-one.

Cumulatively, that equates to odds of 6.3 trillion-to-one, with that figure potentially higher if all shots were calculated on the same round.

Garvey, whose home course is the Kaiapoi Golf Club in Canterbury, said:

“Today’s achievement is beyond my wildest dreams. I hope to make it into the history books for other things, but I definitely won’t forget this day.”

Big-hitting Garvey joined Kaiapoi Golf Club as a six-year-old, winning the club’s senior women’s title at the age of 13 and then going on to represent her province and New Zealand. In 2018 she won a golfing scholarship from the University of Southern California, and three-years later played in her first Women’s Amateur Championship at Augusta National, then going on to compete in the LPGA Epson tour. The talented Cantabrian is now on the NXXT tour, whose alumni have gone on to compete in the LPGA and LET tours.
