The Canterbury Men's Masters team had a mixed week with some great team wins over strong opposition during the NZ Freyberg played at Whitford Park Golf Club.
The team started strongly with a 4-1 win over Bay of Plenty. Most of the team were either square or one down heading into the closing holes but finished strongly to record the win and gain valuable games on the board. The afternoon match against Aorangi finished with 2-3 loss with some close matches going down the final stretch. After the bye the team came out strongly beating Southland 3/2 and Taranaki 4/1 before going up against Wellington who were tied with Auckland at the top of the table at the time. Canterbury narrowly lost this match 3/2 with Wellington continuing their unbeaten run through the first five matches. In round seven Canterbury beat Manawatu/Wanganui 3/2 and had a halve with Waikato. Still playing for third place in the final round Canterbury suffered its final loss to Tasman 3/2 to finish on 4.5 points and 22.5 games in seventh place.
