The Canterbury trio of Juliana Hung, Tom Parker and Matt McLean have just completed a trip of a lifetime after travelling to China to compete at the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final played at Mission Hills. All three booked their spot in the field after winning their respective age categories at the New Zealand event played at the Clearwater Golf Club in January. The New Zealand event and trip to China was made possible through the contribution of the Canterbury Golf Development Trust.
The players were treated to two clinics by Sir Nick Faldo as well as testing themselves on the challenging Mission Hills golf course which included the difficult par 3 island green.
Tom Parker was the best placed in the age group categories finishing third in the Under 16 section. The Under 16 section proved to be full of talented players with the two leading players from this category finishing first and second in the overall tournament on 10 under par and 8 under par respectively. Tom finished tied for sixth overall with rounds of 71, 77, 71.
Matt McLean finished sixth in the Under 21 Boys section with a consistant showing of 76, 77, 74 and Juliana Hung who finished in tenth position in the Under 16 Girls section with rounds of 78, 79, 79. As you can see from the photo some excellent scoring given the tough layout of the course.
