The Chisholm Park Links course offered a variety of conditions all week during the NZ Freyberg played for by the 15 provinces throughout New Zealand. The Canterbury Men's Masters team of Blair Dibley, Andrew Dufton, James Robb, Richard Belcher and Aaron Forsyth along with Manager Kevin Moyle were together as a team for the second year looking to build on their third place finish in 2015.
The team started strongly with dominant wins over Manawatu/Wanganaui, Northland, Poverty Bay and Waikato. The team had had a very close battle in local favourites Otago narrowly losing 2-3 and then faced neighbours Aorangi which resulted in a draw. The final day of competition saw Canterbury play Bay of Plenty and the eventual winners Auckland both resulted in wins to the opposition. The format for the Men's NZ Freyberg is tough with 8 round robin matches played to determine the winner.
Canterbury finished in sixth position with 4.5 points and 23 games. The title was won by Auckland for the first time since 2003.
