The Flexi Lease Canterbury Women's Team have topped off a great 2015 year by taking out the prestigious Canterbury Team of the Year Award at the Marriotts Hadlee Sports Awards. A remarkable achievement for the Canterbury Women's Team, whose average age was 16, to win the NZ Women's Interprovincial at the Ashburton Golf Club in December.
A record crowd of over 700 Canterbury sporting enthusiasts attended the awards function with 29 sports represented among the lists of finalists. The Canterbury Women's Golf team were selected as one of three finalist for the Sports Team of the Year award facing stiff competition from Rugby Union and the Men's Squash team who won their national time for the first time.
Captain of the Canterbury Women's Team Catherine Bell accepted the award on behalf of the team, who were unable to be there on the night as they were competing at the South Island Stroke Play. Catherine acknowledged her team and the hard work they put into winning the national championship for the first time in 27 years as well as the support they received from caddies, team management and Canterbury Golf. It was great to share the special night with the sponsors of the team Flexi Lease Managing Director Gary Donnithorne.
