Christchurch Boys High School (CBHS) have won the Nomads New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship for the first time this afternoon, with a clinical final round at the Hawkes Bay Golf Club. The CBHS team of Tom Parker, Ben Baker, Dominic Brettkelly and Jack Ryder won by a dominant eight strokes over defending champions Burnside High School after Parker and Baker recorded impressive afternoon rounds of 66 and 67 respectively (par 73). CBHS led by one shot after the first round before the pair of Parker and Baker went bogey free in the second round to widen the gap on the field and lead CBHS to their first win in the school’s history.
The CBHS team gained an invitation to play in the event after finished tied with Burnside High at the Canterbury district qualifier held in March. With Burnside returning as defending champions, CBHS was able to get a start in the championship after they finished second based on a countback. Burnside High put up a strong fight with Hiroki Miya posting a round of 68 in the afternoon but it wasn't enough to claw back the margin, yet the team finished a comfortable second ahead of Auckland's St Kentigerns College in third.
