Christchurch ran out 4-0 winners against Clearwater in the Pollock Cup Final yesterday at Waimairi Beach Golf Club. Christchurch had a significant advantage on paper with their handicaps being more than half of their opponents and so it proved to be. Olive Tapu, Mel Newburn and Lina Park all won 4/3 after holding comfortable leads throughout. Clearwater's Rachel Eder put up a spirited effort against Catherine Bell and took her to the 18th hole before relinquishing. It was a fine effort by Eder who was three down on the turn, but continued to batlle hard and get back into the match.
In the semi-finals Clearwater did cause a minor upset when they beat Russley 3-1. Russley were hamstrung with Juliana Hung being at the NZ Women's Open, however wins to Rachel Eder over Robyn Cruse, Lynda Vieceli over Mihee Woo, and Di Kay over Bridget Hoffman were enough to get the job done. Maddie May got a win for Russley over Virginia Faass. Christchurch won the other semi 4-0 against Harewood. Tapu, Newburn and Park all had dominant wins. The match between the Catherines Bell and Knight was closer with Catherine Bell eventually winnning 3/1.
