Juliana Hung (Russley) has produced yet another dominant performance at the South Island U19 Championship which was played at Harewood for the women's event this week. Hung made it three in a row for this tournament after winning the championship again this year with rounds of 68, 69, 68 to finish on 11 under par, five shots clear of Miree Jung (Titirangi). Other top finishes included Deanna Matthews (Weedons) who finished 3rd and Estelle Lin (Russley) 4th both in the U13 section.
While the women's event was held at Harewood, a field of 118 men competed at Templeton Golf Club for the South Island U19 Championship. The combined field of 148 players was the largest field the South Island event had ever attracted which included a large number of players who travelled from the North Island which strengthened the quality of the field.
Jimmy Zheng (Howick) finished with the tournament low score of 66 in the final round to win the South Island U19 Championship title from Jang Hyun Lee (Maungakiekie) by two shots. Rangiora's Kazuma Kobori closed out a great performance with three sub par rounds of 72, 67, 67 to finish third overall.
A field of 15 boys competed in the U13 section which was played from the yellow tees. Daniel Freeman (Remuera) took out first place with a birdie at the last to win by one shot from Hayden Lam (Everglades) on +7. Yuki Miya, Cooper Moore (both Russley), Ethan Lam (Everglades) and Phong Nguyen (Christchurch) also achieved top 10 finishes in the U13 section. In the U17 section Hayato Miya also finished strongly with a 4 under 69 to finish in 5th position.

The Canterbury U16 Team and U19 Teams also defended their titles for the South Island U19 Interprovincial which is played in conjunction with the individual championship.
