Playoff for McLean at Grant Clements Memorial

Posted by: on 20 February 2018

A play-off was needed to decide the winner of the Grant Clements Memorial Tournament played at the Mount Maunganui Golf Club with Canadian national representative player Joey Savoie and Harewood's Matt McLean finishing tied on seven under par after 72 holes of stroke play.

With both having wayward drives down the 18th hole, used for the playoff, it set up tough approach shots to the green. McLean made the green but was some 60 foot from the pin leaving himself a tricky down hill putt.  Savoie hit his approach to 15 foot and after McLean lipped out for par, it was Savoie who lifted the trophy after securing his par putt.  While the playoff was won by Joey Savoie this was still a fantastic result in a high quality field for McLean.

Kazuma Kobori (Rangiora) also continued his strong run of form finishing tied for 3rd after winning the NZ Foursomes with Matt Tautari (Southland) which was played on Friday.  McLean and Kobori also teamed up to win the district competition with the best combined gross score over the 72 hole event.
