The Richards Trophy and Cresswell Cup annual fixtures were played at Ellesmere Golf club yesterday in overcast, cool winter conditions with the course in great order.
The Richards Trophy was played between the winner of Metropolitan A, Waimairi Beach and the Winner of the Templeton Cup, Kaiapoi Blue. The Kaiapoi team from left, Brian East, Dion Ratahi, Steve Cassidy, Graham Moore, Rodney Downes, Marc Palmer and Chris East defeated Waimairi Beach’s Steve Priest, Dominic Robinson, Tommy Lam, Craig Prior, Ron Marshall, Dave Smith, Carl Van Rees and Doug Bonner 5.5-2.5
The Cresswell Cup match between the winner of Metropolitan B, Harewood and the winner of the Patterson Cup, Weedons Red could not be separated at the end of regulation holes before the Weedons Red team from left, Dave Stubbs, Terry Sullivan, Chris Hay, Glenn Hames, Chris Zanchetta, Dave Butts, Mike Methven and Damien Peters won on the first sudden death play-off hole against Harewood's Ian Findlater, Doug Claridge, Peter Ophuis, Scott McKenzie, Tony Pole, Chris Lippitt, Pat Bonisch and Danny O’Neill.
