Today sees the the start of a series of Seniors and Legends tournaments in Christchurch kicking off with the Mainpower Legends Pro-Am at Rangiora Golf Club today. The field of 72 has attracted Seniors Pros from throughout New Zealand and Australia.
On Friday the Pros move to the Russley Golf Club Legends Pro-Am.
The action heats up in the weekend with the arrival of European Seniors Tour Pro Peter Fowler. He will conduct a short game clinic on Saturday morning at Riccarton Park Golf Complex with Canterbury's best up-and-coming amateurs, before competing in the Ramada Worldwide Seniors PGA Championship being held over three days starting on Sunday at Waimairi Beach Golf Club. The second round is also at Waimairi, with the final round on Tuesday at Waitikiri Golf Club. Two Professionals players will play in a team format alongside three daily teams of amateurs to compete for team prizes each day.
The tournament is support by local sponsor Lamb & Hayward Funeral Directors and there are 54 professionals from Australia, France, Tahiti, Canada, United States, UK and New Zealand competing for the title. Defending champion Tim Elliott will be returning and other contenders are Peter Fowler, Mike Harwood, Brad Burns and many others including the current Australian Senior PGA Champion Martin Pettigrew from Christchurch.
