The nationally led campaign 'She Loves Golf' has seen women getting out to give golf a try at fun events throughout the country. NZ Golf has used She Loves Golf Ambassadors to held promote the campaign including Lydia Ko, Toni Street, Laura McGoldrick, Jamie Curry, Matilda Rice and Daisy Dagg.
Nine golf clubs In Canterbury have got in behind the initiative to help grow the game running their own fun taster events. Canterbury Golf ran a pop up activation event based at Riccarton Park Golf Complex providing a great day for the whole family. The women received free range balls and coaching as well as their awesome goodie bags with children having the opportunity to have a go using the SNAG equipment on the inflatable driving range and playing mini golf.
Over 70 women participated in the event and all had success at golf with some tips from the professional coaches and members of the Canterbury Women's Team. "We are grateful for the support provided along with the facilities from Riccarton Park Golf Complex" said Golf Development Manager Rachel Thow. "There are a number of golf clubs that have put together a four week group coaching package specifically for women to learn the fundamental skills of the game, this will provide a great follow on for those wishing to get more involved in the game".
Lydia Ko is right behind the initiative. “The whole thing about She Loves Golf is just getting more girls into the game. I’m really keen to see more girls play and if I can have an effect on them, that’s really cool. It’s a great way to spend time with your family and friends and to be outside. Go to the driving range, hit some balls then play some golf. Don’t worry about your score, you don’t even need to keep count when you’re learning. And make sure you’re having fun when you’re doing it! If it’s not fun, it’s not worth it.”
