The Ashby Bergh Trophy and McGuire Hendon Cup matches were played at Rangiora Golf Club on Sunday in fine, cool conditions with the course in great order.
The Ashby Bergh Trophy match was between Weedons Red (Canterbury Central Patterson Cup Winner) and Amberley Red (Canterbury North Templeton Cup Winner) with Amberley Red’s team of, from left Steve Thomas, Glen Smith, Dean Walker, Sean Heslop, Rowan Turnbull, Steve Hartley, Mark Neale, Gavin Burrows and Phil Cumming defeating Weedons Red's Chris Hay, Mike Methven, David White, Dave Stubbs, Steve Johnson and Terry Sullivan 4-2. There were some great matches with Amberley Red’s No. 2 Steve Thomas sinking a 25ft birdie putt on the 18th to secure an individual win and the trophy for his team 4-2.
The McGuire Hendon Cup match was between Weedons Black (Canterbury Central Patterson Cup Runner-up) and Pegasus Red (Canterbury North Templeton Cup Runner-up). Weedon's, from left Wayne Hallinan, Barry Grant, Martin Bogue, Gary Seddon, Tony Fitzgerald and Steve McDonald proved too strong defeating Pegasus Red’s Dan Dwyer, Gary May, Craig Drummond, Jason Gwatkin, Jamie Buchan and Richard Sutherland 6-0.
