The Annual Canterbury Life Members tournament was held on 6 March at the Hawarden Golf Club.
The course was in wonderful condition and Hawarden were amazing hosts to a field of 16 players.
This year the Canterbury Golf Executive underwrote the costs of the tournament as a thank you to the Life Members. These people have dedicated many hours to their individual clubs, this is a chance to recognise these efforts and to hear the stories of the work these people have given to their clubs was very overwhelming.
Allan Easte the Hawarden club captain was very organised and after a welcoming morning tea sent the 16 on our merry way, without warning us of the very challenging pin placements that awaited us. Despite this, scoring was excellent and Hawarden life member Keith Yorston had 38 points to win the Life Members trophy.
Maurice Ford (Russley) and Barry Grant (Weedons) both had 35 points. The good news for everyone who played yesterday is that we are heading back to Hawarden next year, with the winner of the tournament playing host the following year. This year they have set a very high benchmark across all areas of running this tournament with a tremendous course, catering, club captain and even the weather gods delivered.
