The annual Canterbury North vs Buller Westland Rep fixture was played last weekend at the Hokitika Golf Club. Senior and Intermediate teams battled it out on the links course at Hokitika in the typical West Coast weather. A brisk breeze got up on Saturday afternoon to give the North men a true links experience.
Results after the first day 4BBB and foursomes were very close, with Canterbury North leading the seniors 6 games to 4 and the intermediates 6.5 games to 5.5, leaving it all up for grabs on the final day singles.
The senior singles resulted in a win for Buller Westland 5.5 games to 4.5, but this was not enough with Canterbury North prevailing overall by the narrow margin of 10.5 - 9.5, a very good, even contest, that came right down to the wire.
In the intermediates it was again tight but with Canterbury North taking the win 6.5 games to 5.5, and the overall victory 13 games to 11, once again a good close contest.
Some of the standout performers who all remained unbeaten over the weekend included Matt Burns with 2 wins and a half, and Jason Sincock with 1 win and 2 halves for Canterbury North Seniors. Meanwhile for Buller Westland Dale Green recorded 2 wins and a half and Ryan Peek 1 win and 2 halves.
In the intermediate grade, Geoff Youngman was the only player to record 3 wins, while Arron Bunt had 1 win and 2 halfs with Tony Burgess also recording 2 wins from his 2 games. For Buller Westland, Wayne Thomas and Murray Marsh both recorded 2 wins and a half.
Another notable mention was the effort of Wayne Thomas who scored a hole-in-one at the 10th hole on his way to a win within the 4BBB.
