The annual Cantebury vs Aorangi Represenative fixture was played at Ashburton Golf Club yesterday in fine, cool conditions with course in great order.
The Canterbury Women were dominant in their morning reverse singles winning 6-2 and continued to press home their advantage in the afternoon singles to again win 6-2 and 12-4 overall to retain the Templar Trophy. From left, Rachel Eder, Amy Weng, Jasmine Clancy, Hillary O'Connor, Maddie May, Catherine Bell, Yoyo Fu and Deanna Matthews.
The Senior Men had some very tight matches in both the reverse singles and singles and a number of results could have gone either way with seven matches over the day going down to the wire. In the end Aorangi held the upper hand winning in the morning 5-3 with the afternoon matches being halved 4-4 for a 9-7 overall win.
There were also some great matchups in the Men's Masters with not a lot separating the two teams. In the morning reverse singles Canterbury edged Aorangi 4.5-3.5 and maintained their advantage winning 5-3 in the afternoon singles and 9.5-6.5 overall.
The U19 Men also had a stern test against their southern rivals with shots given based on handicap. Canterbury won 2.5-1.5 games in their reverse singles and halved the afternoon singles 2-2, with three of the four matches coming down to the final hole, for a hard fought 4.5-3.5 overall victory.
