The Flexi Lease Canterbury Women's Team have performed at the highest level all week to go through eight rounds undefeated and win the NZ Women's Toro Interprovincials. The team played against North Harbour in a tense semi final. Hillary O'Connor secured the first win for the team holding her nerve down the 18th hole winning 2 up. Catherine Bell had a dominant performance winning 7/6 and Amelia Garvey came in with a halved match. Momoka Kobori fought from 2 down 2 to play, she birdied the 17th hole to go one down with one to play and very nearly halved her match. With two and a half games each the halved match between Amelia Garvey and Ela Grimwood headed into a sudden death playoff. Amelia made a comfortable par with North Harbour's par putt slipping past the hole to give Canterbury the win.
The team started strongly in the final against Bay of Plenty and never let up. Hillary O'Connor delivered the first win by 3/1, the win well deserved and also making Hillary unbeaten for the week. Juliana Hung also came in with a 3/2 victory and Catherine Bell sealed the team win with her win on the 16th hole. With two matches still on the course the Canterbury team continued to dominate to get the 5-0 win with Amelia Garvey winning 3/1 and Momoka Kobori 2/1.
The team are excited about their performance over the week. The last time Canterbury won was in 1988.
Catherine Bell was awarded the Player of the Tournament after being undefeated in the number three position after the eight games she played.
