n fine but cool conditions the finals of the North Canterbury Kaikoura, Gardner and Templeton Cups Interclub series were completed on Sunday at the Amberley Golf Club.
The course was presented in excellent condition with the fairways allowing plenty of run and greens that were running fast and true.
The Kaikoura Cup pitted Amuri against Pegasus Blue. For most of this match games were evenly based and were highlighted by some very strong play off the tee by all. Amuri"s Alasdair Reid and Charlie Gothard managed to pull away in the latter stages of their matches to secure two wins for Amuri. Will Bastings after being dormie two down against Zac Norton won the last two to get a vital half. Alan Hunt at the top of the order for Amuri by virtue if an albartross two on the par 5 second hole and a great chip and one putt on the last secured a 1up win against Graham Walker.
So Amuri were the 2024 winners of the Kaikoura Cup defeating Pegasus Blue 3.5-.5.
The Gardner Cup was very evenly contested with three matches going to the last hole. Rangiora Red's Stretch Renai held on to win on the last. Youngster Shum Nakamura was a comfortable winner while the other team members Carl Franklin and Dan Needham both halved their matches which were enough to give the win against a tough Kaiapoi team.
Rangiora Red defeated Kaiapoi 3-1 to be 2024 Gardner Cup winners.
The Templeton Cup was an all Kaiapoi affair and as would expect was a tight match with four matches going to the 17th hole. Strong wins to Greg Stringer and Ken Harvey for Kaiapoi Black and close wins to Paul Hughes and Simon Hodge were enough to get Kaiapoi Black over the line. Graham Moore and Marc Palmer were solid winners for Kaiapoi White.
Kaiapoi Black defeated Kaiapoi White 4-2 to be winners of the 2024 Templeton Cup.
