Michael Rondel appointed to Golf NZ Board and Dion Kerr appointed as new Canterbury Golf President

Posted by: on 21 December 2023

Following the recent Golf New Zealand Board (GNZ) elections process where each District Associations was required to first nominate any candidates and then subsequently vote for their preferred candidate, it has been confirmed that Canterbury Golf President Michael Rondel has been voted and elected to the GNZ Board.

Michael will join the also-elected Andy Sellar with them both commencing their respective 3-year terms starting 1 January 2024. Further, it has just been confirmed that the GNZ Appointments Panel has now also completed their processes and has appointed Anna Tierney for a 3-year term, and Kylie Boyd for a 1-year term (casual vacancy) both starting on 1 January 2024.

As such, the full Golf New Zealand Board for 2024 is:

  • Justine Brennan
  • Tenille Burnside
  • Matt Kenny
  • Norm Thompson
  • Ewan Westergaard
  • Anna Tierney
  • Kylie Boyd
  • Mike Rondel
  • Andy Sellar

Following this news, at the recent December Canterbury Golf Executive meeting it was determined that it would be appropriate for Michale Rondel to step down as Canterbury Golf President, but would remain on the Executive to provide his much-valued experience. As a result, a new Canterbury Golf President has been elected with former Vice-President Dion Kerr being nominated and accepting the position effective immediately, which provides a smooth transition for the organisation. Dion Kerr becomes the 62nd Canterbury Golf President.

Both Michael and Dion had this to say following their respective appointments:

“It has been an honour to have been the Canterbury Golf President and I thank all that I have worked with on the Exec and in the staffing team during the last three years.  I intend to stay on the Canterbury Exec for the coming year to ensure some continuity and to support the game in the District.  I look forward now to also ensuring that a Club and District perspective is clear around the GNZ Board table” - Michael Rondel.

"I am honored to take on the role of the presidency for Canterbury Golf.  I look forward to leading this strong and historic organisation into its exciting next chapter while at the same time acknowledging and thanking Michael Rondel for his massive contribution to the president role. I congratulate him on his GNZ appointment and am grateful we have retained his services on the executive for the coming year." - Dion Kerr.

With Dion Kerr vacating the Vice-President position, at the same meeting James Barclay was elected as Canterbury Golf Vice-President.
